I am looking for recommendations as to what to get for a starter set to do foam sculpting, specifically hand tools, not hot knives, wires, etc. Any and all help is appreciated.
An Olfa knife with the blade fully extended, a serrated edge knife (steak, bread), various Stanley surform rasps. Oh,and a good shop vac.
I use everything and anything. Bread and steak knives, Stab twist and break with paint scrapers, chisels, box cutters or anything else that happens to be lying on the bench in front of me. A hack saw blade is very useful when making smoother contour shapes, as are rasp.
Try not to be to methodical when sculpting, random results look more natural.
After the hacking is done I use my finger to dab wall spackle lightly on the rock faces. It gives it that rough look.
Richard:
I can of anti-static spray might be useful to keep foam pieces from moving too far.
I was wondering about the static. I have found I quickly become the abominable foamman. I tried rubbing a dryer sheet on me, but that didn’t help much.
I just look at your blog and see no reason to not use the tunnel you have made.
The dissolving process will stop after a while; the result is the look of an excaveted rock which look natural.
