Follow up on Brass Locomotive parts seperated for E-Bay Sale - Vendor looses big time

Well the auction is now over and the items sold for a total of $180.43. Note the buyers were different for each of the items.

Engine sold for $113.50

Box sold for $20.26

Tender sold for $46.67

By coincidence there was also the identical engine by same builder which sold for $278.89. Imagine same engine sold on same day as one item.

These engines were build for NWSL. They are the Norfork and Western E2 4-6-2 locomotives.

So. if this is typical it is far better to sell as a set than to peice it out.

Unless of course you end up with a bidding war.

So why start a new thread? Coulda just bumped the old one.

I wanted to draw attention to the fact that the items had sold as well as an identical engine which was not parted out.

The engine certainly was a good deal for the person who purchased it, I was surprised that the same person had not won the tender as well, as it went for a reasonable price as well.

I was very surprised to see the exact same engine being sold on the same day, as totally complete went for the going rate, but the vendor who sold the items separately sure did not do well.

Personally, I hate seeing ebayers selling the engine, tender and box as separate items. What I REALLY HATE SEEING is that guy that disassembles and pieces out engines all the time…cylinders, wheels, cabs, boilers, etc. And I’m not even going to get into the folks that show the rear of the tenders next to the cabs! Jeeze! Roger Huber Deer Creek Locomotive Works

In general, just skip the bid on the separate items like a loco and the tender. It can ruin the value of each unless they are together. Only in the case of a parts type situation would I ever consider a bid on a loco or a tender without the other. .
