For anyone who wonders about the locomotives involved in a train vs. police car incident on September 16, 2022

For context: A Colorado officer pulled over and arrested a woman on suspicion of road rage, and she put the suspect in the back of her police vehicle. A police vehicle that was parked on train tracks. And then as a result of the officer putting the suspect in handcuffs, in the back of the police cruiser, a Union Pacific freight train came and obliterated the car, with the suspect inside, but somehow, the suspect survived with serious injuries.

Link to what I’m talking about: https://www.railwayage.com/freight/class-i/situational-unawareness-up-train-hits-police-cruiser-parked-on-tracks-with-suspect-handcuffed-inside/

Even Penguinz0 made a video on this incident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nnkF9jffdY

Now for the locomotives and the consist. I wasn’t able to identify all the locomotives in the consist, nor the number of locomotives and cars in the consist. But I was able to identify two locomotives based on rewinding the video and looking at it carefully frame-by-frame.

Here are the details I have so far:
Locomotives: UP 8612 (SD70ACe), UP 7079 (AC44CW)
Cars: Tanker cars (hopefully they weren’t DOT 111s)

If you know what the other locomotives involved were, let me know down in the replies.
Thanks!

That must have been terrifying from the suspect’s perspective… having a train barreling down on you while you can’t do anything because you’re handcuffed… There really does need to be more awareness around train tracks for everyone…

The officer was placed on leave… I would hope so

The officer should have been charged and tried for attempted MURDER.

Yeah

No.
Manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide in Colorado.

The officer was charged for attempted manslaughter, but was acquitted from that charge.

Does anyone know how many locomotives were involved in the accident? Because it was obviously more than two locomotives.

Indeed it would have been. If I was the officer, I’d go into the car and drive it off the tracks, or move the suspect out of the car.

That’s all the details I have found in regards to the train involved. Couldn’t find the train code, nor the number of cars, or locomotives other than it would have been more than two locomotives when looking at other stills in the video.

Found this video here that was posted on April 20, 2023. And it looks like after the accident, SD70ACe #8612 was repaired and returned to service: https://youtu.be/-QhauYa13xg?t=1396

Your fascination with this? Another simulation for what purpose?
