For Steam Lovers

I think I feel a tear welling up…sniff
That’s a beautiful sight! I wi***here were more of them running today. Thanks for sharing. Dave

That was soo cool!

Too bad we don’t have a “drool” smilie. That footage definitely warrants it’s use!

That is an amazing video, thanks for linking to it, ennout.

Steam locos are art in motion and music to the ears!

You really do notice how small the drivers are as you watch this, though. What a magnificent machine!

Right. They’re only 5’ 9" tall.[:D]

Jeff

Great video. Especially the heavy smoke shot with it to the rear left of the chase car.

Ive seen the engine twice but only have silent video for it. And a slightly lower hearing from the ground shaking whistle.

That was NICE. Thanks. A quick observation here. If ya’ll get the chance to see the old steamers in action don’t pass up the chance. The cost of retubing the boilers and such are really escallating and a lot of steamers that have been running are slowely being parked as display only statis be cause of it.

…because it’s just way to cool.

Bump!

Sharing is good. In this case it’s d[censored]n good!! Bravo! [tup] [tup] [tup] [tup] [tup]
Any estimates as to mph in scenes paralleling highway?

See posting by digitalr ailroader today, 27-Jan, 08:10:03 for below reference re steam HO model railroading

Hornby, this is what U.S. modelers need on their layouts. Think of the marketing possibilities: X units locos sold, (X+3)+ house exhaust fans per loco…hmmm… [:)]

Thanks,
Jon

jnichols. I agree with you that closeup to huge locomotives is impressive. At the Railroad Museum in Sacramento, the first thing that greets (say overwhelms) you is a Cab Forward. SPECTACULAR. During WWII I was station at MInter Field in Bakersfield along the tracks to Tehachapi. I watched those behemoths thunder by every day, but there is noting like standing next to one. The building of these monster was truly an engineering feat of he times.

Re: Size of the mammoths

Photo on pg.31 of O.Winston Link’s book Last Steam Railroad in America depicts a shop guy(H.H. Wilbourne) testing a Y6 articulated for air leaks on the brake system. He’s on tip toes and he just about comes head high to the cylinder chest. From the photo you see that the yard track doesn’t have a lot of height railhead to ground. Drivers are cited as being 58 inches in diameter.

They do dwarf mere mortals.

That is an AWESOME clip, heres a link to a friends web site, click on VIDEO’S to see the selection including the Challenger http://www.railroad-crossing.com/index.shtml

Wow…That’s incredible.[:D]

I know why passenger service is dwindling in the US…Locomotives like that aren’t powering them![^]

Steve,
Thanks for the link. Those were excellent videos.

Thank your friend for me! I could watch them over and
over. Dave

I hate dial-up… but what I saw of it was spectacular! Thanks for sharing!
