Former Kalmbach photographer A.L. Schmidt dies
Thank you to all who have posted, or will post, your heart-warming comments about my dad, Arthur L Schmidt (A.L. Schmidt). He was the best. He worked hard all of his life, often having his full time job plus a part time job, sacrificing his own leisure time for his family’s benefit. My mom, his wife of almost 66 years, passed away in 2006. He retired in 1993 and had some really good years of retirement. We should all be so lucky!
he will be missed by every one who’s lives he touched. the world is now without one of our great resouces. my condolences to his family and all who worked and/or knew him. rmr
I read “Model Railroader” religiously during the 1970s and remember well Mr. Schmidt’s name in photo credits. He was a brilliant photographer and his work inspired me greatly. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Kalmbach is losing a lot of former famous employees these days. Kalmbach has already lost someone by the name of “Drury” in mid-July. It’s been 3 months now and we lose a former photographer. What is the world coming to these days? And besides, we also lost last week was speaker Tom Foley. He died of a heart attack while driving to see President Obama this previous Friday. Both will be terribly missed espically you Foley.
Brilliant photographer for Model Railroader. Enjoyed seeing his work over the years, RIP Mr. Schmidt.

I certainly remember seeing Art’s work as a young man - what a talented and hard working guy!! Carol, it sounds like your family has some wonderful and lasting memories of your Dad, and through his fine work and those memories he will not be forgotten. My sincere sympathy to his family and friends - it sounds like Art lived a wonderful and full life.
