Former SP SD45T-2 in CN paint...look.

love to see one in CN colors old or new . A future they should have roaming around the CN system

There goes another one.

I hate it, looks better with SP Roman Writing.

This is a very sharp paint job. Love the look of the unit. Never thought a former espee unit could look so GOOD!!! Congrats to Canadidn National.

A future it has, roaming around the CN system it won’t. All the DM&IR locomotives have controls and piping for the Orinocco braking system needed to take the Taconite trains down Proctor or Pork City Hill to the docks. DM&IR is short of power with several of their 400 series SD40T-3s at Woodcrest for repairs. The pictured 402 was at VMV to have its Woodward CLC engine control system replaced with a Q-Tron system and received the new paint at the same time. So 402 should be back in Minnesota in a few days. This braking system is the reason you won’t see anything but a DM&IR locomotive on a loaded Taconite train. Even the two sister B&LE tunnel motors currently on the DM&IR lack this feature.

i agree with they are going to live on the same tracks they are already on… but… i do really like it in those colors! might haveto have one painted up

I will agree with that. However, I think they look best in the SP Speed Lettering scheme.

I think the loco looks really cool and a shame that they wont roam the system (but never say never), question is how many SD45T-2’s does the CN/DMIR now have and will they get anymore?

It’s cool.

I agree with WCtransfer. The DM&IRs should have been left alone. In my opinion, they looked much better in DM&IR colors then CN colors. Even if a unit is going to be around for a while I think it should be left in its original colors. Look at how long CP has owned the Soo Line. You will notice that LOTS of former Soo Line wear their original paint and very few have been repainted into CP colors.

They have 18 plus 2 with standard radiators. If you want to see a tunnel motor roam the CN system hope for one of the B&LE’s 12 to be repainted. B&LE doesn’t need all 12 of theirs with current traffic levels. It is very unlikely that CN will acquire anymore rebuilds like this, their mechanical department prefers to buy new power .

Pretty Sharp.I Give Em’Credit For The Paint Shop. However,Not Being A Big DMIR Fan,I Have No Real Opine Eitherwise.

The only thing, IMO, to an SD45T-2 is an SD40T-2. Nice looking paint scheme. I also enjoyed seeing tunnel motors in the SP scarlet and grey as well as the DRGW black and orange speed letter scheme.

Thanks for sharing the pictures!![^][:)]

Is a “name your favorite tunnel motor secondhand paint scheme” thread far behind? [:D]

Looks like CN did good job on the repaint. Being a casual fan of the DM&IR, I always thought the maroon and gold (or is it yellow?) looked better on the road’s older SD9’s, 18’s, and 38’s.

I wouldn’t say it’s all that unlikely, look at all the “junk” they bought for WC and IC (SD40 rebuilds and the blue x-LMS’s). You never know when they might find a “good deal”…

True, but CP doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to paint things either. Notice that they still have engines in badly-mangled Milwaukee Road colors! It would be nice to see some of those repainted.

As for the 402, I think it looks nice! Too bad they couldn’t throw an arrowhead on there somewhere. Also, are they expecting snow? What’s with the snow-fence on the steps???

Even though I prefer to see this in SP paint scheme, CN has done a nice paint job on this locomotive.

at least they didnt scrap it !

Thats too bad…I like the DM&IR Arrow Head Scheme.

Ooohh… Nice colors!

While I would prefer to see my tunnel motors in SP or D&RGW colors, I’m more than happy to see them in any colors (even UP!).
