Fostoria, Ohio

From time to time, I listen to Fostoria web cast.

Does anyone else here listen in? I have never been there but it sure seems like a busy spot.

Joe, can you fill us in on an overview of Fostoria?

Thanks,

ed

Fostoria(aka the iron triangle)

you have the former nkp line crossing the B&O at the depot and the C&O at columbus avenue. The C&O also crosses the B&O along columbus ave as well.lots of wyes and transfer moves especially from walbridge to willard.F tower (csx) controls the traffic. so when ns gets permission to move they usually run on both tracks through town.NS also has an auto mixing center on rt 12 east of Fostoria.lots and lots of auto racks.you can go look at F tower and the mixing center but do not tresspass on the property.that can get you a nice hit in the wallet.nyc also had a line in fostoria as well but it is abandoned now.fostoria has bought the area between the three mains and wants to build a railfan park there.there is alot to clean up and donations are always accepted.just go to fostorias city web site and they have a link to the iron triangle rail park web site.hope this helps.

The news of the city of Fostoria buying the land is great!! When I was there about two years ago, I was amazed that they had not done what Rochelle, Ill. had and built a railfan park. This would be an excellent destination for railfanning with a secure viewing area. I enjoyed it a lot but was always nervous that I was on private property.

Yes, it’s pretty interesting, especially since most nights something goes wrong. It’s also fun to listen to for background chatter when using Microsoft Train Simulator.

I really enjoy listening in. Makes for good background. Their scanner pickup is pretty good. Typically you can hear about 20 miles in any direction. It does seem to pickup transmissions to the north adn the east better.

Is there much that runs on the old C&O line south of Fostoria? The majority of what i hear is on the B&O or to or from Toledo onto the B&O line.

Does CSX have access to the mixing center? It sounded like they sent an engine over there the other night. Went there as a light engine, returned with several cars.

I know Wallbridge is in Toledo, but is it a yard or a mixing center. Quite a bit coming out of Wallbridge is the 200 series trains (automotive). Dont know if that is due to it being a mixing center, or just the main south route out of Detroit.

I have been checking the movements of the CSX trains vs the times on bullsheet. seems as if CSX is running fairly tight operations these days.

yes csx has access to the mixing center.walbridge is the former C&O yard in toledo.lots of auto traffic comes through there. a train will come from walbridge turn at fostoria on the B&O and then turn to go south at deshler.the trains head for the ford plant in louisville ky.

I Used to live in Findlay, OH many moons ago (read mid 90’s) and Fostoria is a great spot!

Definately worth the drive. While you are in the area, check out Deshler as well.

I hope to make it out there this summer. Deshler is about 6hrs from where I live now in Illinois.
