Fox Valley Models 7-post boxcar

Hello, have some FVM 7-post boxcars and want to add weight to them. The roof is glued to the body and don´t know how to open.

Anyone have added weight to this boxcar?

I don’t have any FVM models but maybe the floor comes out like the old Athearn BB models?

And if you can’t get the floor off either, drill a hole in the bottom, where it can’t be seen and pour some sand in it,then patch the hole. Just a Thought!!

Do you have decorated cars or undecs that you glued? The roofs pop off quite easily on the decorated ones, there’s a pretty decent sized weight in there already, and I’ve ran some from the first run on my layout with no derailment. I don’t have an NMRA scale so I’m not sure if they’re up to spec.

Have the decorated cars. They never derail but they wobble and look weird on the track with that wobble. I tried loosening and tightning the screw on the trucks, but to no avail.

Soller,

Sounds to me,that you have more going on than you can see,you should be able to tighten, one end more than the other, that will eliminate the wobble,if in fact, you are tightening the truck and not bottoming out the screw and you think it’s tight. If you really tighten one as far as you can,it should not move, (swivel) at all. You may need a washer,Kadee has them in two size’s. It goes over the truck mounting pin, before you put the truck on.

Sound like the wheels or axel maybe out of round causing the wobble.

Here’s my thoughts. I would remove the trucks and inspect the wheels to insure they are not wobbling and if that isn’t the problem I would check the axel, truck bolster and mounting pin.
