That is a really handsome engine; I’d rather see a road engine pulling a 6 car mainline passenger train, though.
Perhaps the hot foothills day is the cause, perhaps a flashback to the anisthesia induced dreams after an operation, but
heretical as it may seem, and be, I propose that a two wheel leading truck, if one could be made to fit, would Mogul-ize the engine…flight of fantasy.

I was very glad when I heard about the extension! I thought the last time I would see7470 for 2 years would be on that photo special in May. I’m hoping to head up there for Railfans’ Weekend and Steam in the Snow.

Nice picture. I first thought it was a Christmas card painting. Hope to go up there and ride one day.

Great news

Mr. Thompson: Find an excuse to come up here; I’ve been on several excursions (RDC, Steam in the Snow) and can highly recommend it. I recommend getting tickets before hand. Also the area caters to tourists and has accommodations convenient to the station. There are several other rail attractions in the area (Mt. Washington Cog railway, Clarke’s depot); you could easily spend a week riding the NH (and VT) tourist trains.

Beautiful photo, but I too thought it was a Christmas card painting.
