How does free-mo work? Specifically in HO Scale.

There are a set of standards to which every module must adhere - height, electrical connections, track gauge and where tracks join at the ends. The thing that makes Free-Mo unique is that there are no requirements for module shapes, so instead of the same old rectangular layouts at shows, Free-Mo layouts twist and wander all over the room and have much greater flexibility of design.
A few years back, one of our forum members did a whole series of threads on the N-scale Free-Mo group he belonged to. This is a really great example of how a Free-Mo layout can be built and managed.

I really like the Free-mo concept. There seems to be only a little Free-mo around in the Midwest, but maybe I’m just poorly informed on that. If anyone knows of a Free-mo group in the Central Indiana-Central Illinois area, I’d like to know more. I think Free-mo is fascinating. I had a chance to see a decent-sized one at a WGH Show in Cleveland a few years back. I think I went back and viewed operations on it 4 different times. I don’t have a good vehicle for transporting a module but I would definitely consider getting involved with a Free-mo group, if there was one in my area. The flexibility of the modules really makes the idea appealing.

Free-mo is a great option for someone who doesn’t have a ton of space but also doesn’t want multiple main lines or rectangular shapes for everything.

Don’t know why those guys are/were in the slammer, or if they got out, but I do recall Unimat saying they’d “Free Chuck with every purchase”.

The WGH was “a few years ago”…wow!
I have a module designed to fit into my subcompact hatchback, along with legs, rolling stock and other necessities. Not all modules require a trailer ( or school bus!)
