Just read the News Wire article that Frisco 2-10-0 1630 might be back under steam this summer at the Illinois Railway Museum. I’M EXCITED, IS ANYONE ELSE EXCITED!!!. If they they do get her running I will planning a visit with the kids. They haven’t enjoyed a ride behind a steam engine yet.
Well that’s great! Can’t have too many Decapods running, can we, and why should the Strasburg Railroad have all the fun? AND if that Decapod is an old “Bolshevik” as well, what can we say but well done IRM!
god all this steam getting back on the rail with the big boy getting done the 2926 4-8-4 & boston & maine 1373 making headway finally & now this 2-10-0 [8D]
I was at IRM the day they pulled the Frisco decapod out of the shop, and were loading the tender with coal for its initial runs at the museum. That is decades ago when IRM also had a Tuskegee 2-6-2 and a Shay in steam. I still recall how glossy and beautiful it looked. Indeed for a while Rustoleum used a photo of the engine in its advertisements.

Great new!!! We got to see it run about 12 years ago while visiting the IRM, which is a great place to visit even if steam is not running.
I hope to see it run again either this year or the next.

Thats greatnews!!! The last time I saw it run was 19 years ago as I got a take the throttle certificate from my dad ! I got to run her down the main line to the end and on the return to the union depot I was able to throw coal into the firebox under the watchful eyes of the fireman.
Never seen a ten wheeler in operation. Should be a epic year in steam!
Just to clarify a “ten wheeler” is a 4-6-0. A 2-10-0 is a “decapod.” But yes, seeing all those drivers move in unison is an exciting sight to be sure. And you would have enjoyed a couple of years ago when the Iowa Interstate ran a special into Illinois – a triple header – of two Chinese built 2-10-2s and the Milwaukee Road 261.
28 drivers! Keith Schmidt caught the train at a small town in Illinois on the former Rock Island main and posted it on YouTube

Glad to hear this. Always interested in seeing Frisco run again, especially since #1522 is not. I was lucky enough to see her when she was still running, what a thrill.
