Every year our family participates in a “scrap box challenge” hosted at Large Scale Central. You get a theme, a small budget, and about 30 days. This was the first year the crew “seceded” from yours truly!
One team began with cans, crafsticks and a poorly functioning B’mann 10-wheeler chassis…
Yours truly thought he had a busted LGB 2017D on his hands courtesy of a friend’s auction find, but found he had a metal candy container in the shape of a train and some ingenious reuse of junk plastic.
I fused it to the chassis of a failed repower attempt of a LGB m2075 (Battery), hooked it up to that LGB tender in the background (a gift of a few years back), and the inspection loco Loke Ihi / Climbing Rose hit the rails.
Votes aren’t in until early the end of February. The Missile Transport seems to have a lock on third. There were many expert level builds this year using a variety of media, from wood to 3D printing and multi-media. Builds were a combination of kit-bashing and scratchbuilding.
Results are in! I am pleased to announce that my kids’ missile carrier pulled off a close third place. The builds were really quite impressive, and it always neat to see how voters balance craftsmanship with creativity in the results.
