Does anybody here have experience with Front Range diesel locomotives? If so, what is your experience / rating of them? Are they any good? What is their detail level like? How do they compare, say, to Proto 2000 level detail? Do they run well? Are there any known problems / issues with them?
They have sweet motors, I forget the name, and it runs well. I have one that I have test ran, but never installed a decoder. Far as detail, below average, about the same as the cheap Life Like stuff. Engine is very lite, would not come close to the pulling power of a Proto. Motor is worth $30.00.

Thank you sir! That’s exactly what I wanted to know.
Front Range has been out of business for many, many years. They were known in later years by several other names such as Loads By Fred or LBF for short. Eventually the LFB product line was purchased by Hubert’s Model Railroad Company or some such, and that company has apparently also gone under because attempts to find them through Google turns up a lot of conflicting links and information.
I would say they are one step up from an Athearn BB. I have a GP7 with Front Range own chassis. It uses a Mabuchi motor but the top speed is way too fast. However, I use DCC and with the top speed lowered it runs just fine, although it could use more weight.
