G Scale for Home Renters

I am renting a house. Back yard is all grass. I have loads of G scale rolling stock and track. I would like to set up a simple layout in the back yard, 10 x 20 feet-ish. Anyone have any suggestions based on the experience of having to move out a G Scale backyard layout? Something along the lines of, “I wish I had done this instead.”

Hello,
I started with G gauge in 1995. For the first 11 years, I did not have a garden railroad, but rather set up the track on the grass. It worked well just after the gardener had cut the grass. As the grass got taller, the blades of grass would poke up through the ties. But it was fun changing the track plan around, and experimenting. It is very fun and easy to just set it up on the grass, or patio. There is no need to build something permanent yet.
Another idea would be to build some sort of modular layout.
