G&W to scrap 88 locomotives [DECEMBER 2025 UPDATE]

As of December 27, 2025, I have gotten updates in regards to G&W’s EPA scandal.

  • CBNS GP9-3 #1705 has been scrapped in 2023
  • CA GP7u #2158 was scrapped in 2023
  • PNWR SD7R #1501 sold to BUGX in September 2023
  • PNWR GP9R #1801 sold to BUGX in November 2023
  • RLIX GP16 #1761 (a.k.a GC GP16 #1761) was scrapped in November 2023.
  • LDRR GP8 #1710 was scrapped between April and December 2023
  • CSCD GP10 locomotives #1001 and #1002 have been retired in 2024 and are being used as a source for parts, meaning they could be undergoing scrapping process
  • AKMD GP8 #707 was scrapped in January 2024
  • PNWR SD9E #1852 sold to BUGX in January 2024
  • WTRY SW1200 locomotives #1203 and #1205 have been scrapped in January 2024
  • PNWR GP9R #1803 sold to BUGX in February 2024
  • YRC GP16 locomotives #1604 and 1606 were scrapped in February 2024
  • BPRR GP9 #886 has been scrapped in March 2024
  • CAGY SD40-2 #3310 has been scrapped in August 2024
  • CAGY GP11 locomotives #1806 and #8720 have been scrapped in August 2024
  • ARZC SD40-2 #4002 was scrapped in 2024
  • PNWR SD9E #1854 was initially retired on November 6, 2023, but got reinstated for the Rock train, until being permanently retired in February 2024, and sent to the AERC (Lebanon, Oregon) for storage and is confirmed to be donated to the ORHF according to multiple Facebook claims, see here.
  • OHCR B23-7S #4092 was donated to the Age of Steam Roundhouse on September 30, 2024
  • CFNR GP15-1 was retired on March 24, 2025, and as far as I’m aware, is in storage on the CFNR and has been replaced by CFNR #2403. Plus there’s this petition here for 1570: https://www.change.org/p/donate-cfnr-1570-to-a-museum
  • AGR SD40-2 locomotives #3309, #3354, #3355, #3356, #3373 and #3374 were stored at the Bay Line Railroad (BAYL) and are awaiting disposition as of 2025.
  • BPRR SD40-3M #458 was stored at the Bay Line Railroad (BAYL) and is awaiting disposition as of 2025.
  • OHCR B23-7S locomotives #3185, #4094, #4095, #4098 and #4099 were sold to LTEX in 2025
  • PW B23-7S #2216 has been sold to LTEX in 2025
  • BPRR GP9 #887 has been scrapped
  • BPRR GP18 #926 has been scrapped
  • RLK GP9-4 #4001 was sold to LDSX in 2025, and is slated to be repainted
  • OHCR #1711 (a.k.a. POHC #1711) was sold to MDLX in 2025 and is being hauled away for scrap.
  • KRR GP40-1 #4050 had its prime mover disabled in 2025
  • RLIX SW1001 #1004 had its prime mover disabled

There’s also the substitute locomotives here:

  • PNWR RP-E4D #101 and GP40P-2 #3001 were scrapped at Rick Franklin Corporation (Lebanon, Oregon) on September 15, 2023
  • WCOR SD40-3 #3346 has been scrapped in February 2024
  • AZRC SD40-2 #4001 was scrapped in 2024 at the RCPE
  • RCPE SD40-2 locomotives #3431, #3455, and #3466 have been scrapped in 2024
  • MMID SD40M-2 locomotives #3448, #3449, #3450, and #3451 had their prime movers disabled in 2024

The good question I have is. What happened to the rest of the locomotives involved in this event that have unknown whereabouts (e.g: MNA #3363, PW #2215, KYLE #3203 and KYLE #3207)

I’m not sure if CFNR 1570 is still in storage or if it was scrapped.
