Gabe's Heritage Highlights April 2025

Hello Everyone!

I know, I post A LOT but I came up with an idea that may be kind of ok.

I’m calling it Gabe’s Heritage Highlights April 2025.

Last Month’s Theme: N/A
This Month’s Theme: Your Choice
Next Month’s Theme: Norfolk Southern Heritage Ponies

Expectations for the photos (Optional):

  1. Share photos of heritage-themed locomotives or rolling stock, including:
    • Official heritage units
    • Fallen flag paint schemes
    • Preserved/vintage locomotives
    • Custom or freelance heritage repaints
    • Models that represent historical railroads or liveries
    • Units forcefully made by the public (eg, CSX GP40-2 6914 ‘Cheesie System Nose’ - this unit is an unofficial heritage unit that was vandalized to look like/be a heritage unit)
  2. Real or Model – Both Are Welcome
  3. Trackside shots, museum visits, or your own layout.
  4. Provide Context (Optional, but Encouraged)
  5. Add a short caption with info like:
    • Location and date (if known)
    • Locomotive model and number
    • Brief historical notes or background

I have a model of New York Central Hudson 5344. 5344 was the last J1e Hudson and was streamlined to match the later “Super Hudsons”. It was later named the Commodore Vanderbilt. My model is pre streamlining. My father would tell me stories of watching Hudsons and Niagaras pulling trains when he was younger.Video of NYC 5344

Yeah, It is one of my favorites. I found it in my fathers collection. Just found some 20th Century passenger cars too. They are kind of long and look funny on my small layout with sharp turns.

I bet! I have Autoracks in N-Scale that I picked up at Menards for $15/ea, and they look bad on the really sharp N-Scale curves, so I can relate to that!
