Now this is going to probably sound dumb. Where is the Galesburg webcam located. I have taken a many freight train into Galesburg. Is it of the yard, or mainly of the station.
At the station - I’m thinking the west end, but don’t quote me on that. As you look down the platform and a little left you can see a highway overpass, and, I’m told, the BNSF yard.
Well, that really sucks, I would rather watch all the trains go in and out of Galesburg Yard then just watch the amtrak and a few friehgt go thru the station.
It’s just north of the Amtrak station, attached high above the street on the Discovery childrens’ museum. You still get to see quite a few freight trains. Trains from the BN double track from Chicago as well as the BN line up to Savanna. Plus, long trains that have been assembled in the yard are offened pulled all the way out past the Amtrak station to change tracks in the yard. Those trains are moved with remote control SD39s, SD40-2s and the like.
Bummer for Bergie: the Galesburg feed is blocked by our firewall so I can only see it at home. [banghead]
One other thing… I’m going to Galesburg Railroad Days this summer with Trains art director Tom Danneman. We’ll have a tent right down by the Amtrak station (actually, in front of the adjacent Galesburg Railroad Museum) on Saturday and Sunday (June 23 & 24). If you go, stop my and say hi.
RailroadJJ, if there’s a chance you’re pulling a train into town that weekend, let me know and I’ll get you my contact information.
In the two years that I was in Illinois I was never able to make it to the railroad days. Infact this last year I was working I believe on a train heading to Indiana. If I was still in Illinois I would let you know, but I transfered back to my home in Dallas, TX.
I was there maybe six years ago. At the time it was a Mexican restaurant in a pretty cool open air building (well, they could open a bunch of doors to the patio at least). Check the phone book; I’m not certain it’s still there.
Bergie - Joe T’s is still there for certain. Was in Ft W. 2 wks ago. Nice place - simple menu, cash only - had lunch there during a visit last Dec 22nd - out on the patio, then flew home to the great white north, where it was 50 degrees colder and had to shovel the driveway.
Now that you mention it, I do recall that when I was there for dinner (with Mike Yuhas) that they only had a handful of memu items. Good nonetheless. Glad to hear its still around. Thanks!
I remember that old Galesburg Railcam that WAS located on the Santa Fe mainline.
It was operated by Willis Steel in that former location.
The story I saw posted to the internet said that Willis Steel gave their webcam system to the Galesburg Railroad Museum. That should explain what happened to the old Galesburg Railcam location. I do NOT remember what date this railcam was switched over.
