I’m a real estate professional living in Hampton, Georgia, a small historic southern town undergoing a resurrection as a Transit Village. The Downtown Development Authority is very interested in building a “Garden Rail Estate”. This would be a city owned and managed tourist venue. The potential site is a circa 1886 mansion sitting on approx. 1.5 acres. The goal is to develop it into a Bed & Breakfast with the railway covering about one acre of the property. You can learn more about the property at www.burkesisco.com/FeaturedProperties.html. We want to make this a world-class railway that tells a story of the past and looks to the future as we anticipate commuter rail service in 2006. Design and consulting expertise would be key and I’m interested in hearing from anyone who can provide input and direction in this area.
Hi,
Have you tried contacting the Georgia Garden Railway Society? Perhaps they would be willing to offer you some help. You might also try any of the botanic gardens who have permanent garden railways, such as the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Somewhere on gardenrailways.com we have a listing of permanent railroads, which might be a good resource. . . but the search engine feature seems to be out of order now.
