Will Gargraves track hook up to Lionel O-Gauge tubular track or is there a transition piece of track required to go from Lionel tubular to Gargraves? The layout I’m building has O-42 curved pieces and I need a sharper curve to join two sections of adjoining track. As an alternative, I have thought of custom fitting an O-31 piece to make the connection but from posts I’ve read on this board, O-31 curved track might be hard to come by. Any suggestions?
That was fairly erroneous information. OC or TOC curve track is more common than anything else Lionel ever made except for O-27 curve track. It can be had for 10 or 20 cents a section.
Standard O track profile (aka height from bottomo of tie to top of rail is taller than Gargraves, aka you will have to shim the Gargraves up. There are track pin adapters to go from Standard O to GG. The O-27 profile matches GG so no shims are required (but you will need different adapter pins).
Lionel still makes 031 track and 042 curves but it is not as popular as Fastrac has become with hobby shops.
GarGraves track just needs adapter pins to go from GarGraves to Lionel tubular style, NO special adapter track needed. Also all three rails on GarGraves track are electrically seperated from each other. You can cut GarGraves track just like 031 tubular track but make sure the holes fit for the pins after cutting. GarGraves makes insulating pins as well for their track. Try Ross Custom Switch’s website if GarGraves won’t let you buy what you want, I went to Ross to order replacement DZ-1000 switch motors for my GarGraves switches.
