GE U18C and U20C

Does anyone make or made models in HO or N of these GE export locos? They were exported to Turkey in the 50’s and 60’s but I cannot find anything suitable to use.

Frateschi made a pretty awful model in HO but otherwise I cannot find anyway to kitbash anything to an acceptable standard- help would be really welcome as US-Built diesels are not my forte.

Thank you

I went over to thedieselshop.us - builders - General Electric - and selected U18C and U20C. What you get is a right side elevation rendering which may or may not help you. However at the bottom of the page there is a References section with the name of a book dealing exclusively with GE export models.

Multiple data here on GE export diesels: http://www.locopage.net/ge.htm .

Frateschi makes a U20C but it has no european style puffer and coupling.

Hello I’m RSD MODEL from Argentina. The U13C photo is one of my first handmade jobs, many years ago. Here I show some current work about U18C.

Leo,

Please, show us some more pics of your work[:)]

These GE export models bear a strong resemblance to the Alco export models of the same era. I don’t know how close the dimensions, etc are, but you can see the resemblance in a model of an Australian Class 48/DL-531 that I imported from down under and painted in Rio Grande colors.

It’s HOn3, using the shell of a Powerline standard gauge model with a HOn3 chassis by K&M Engineering. I believe that both are no longer around, but that the Class 48 model is available from at least on other vendor. That might be worth checking into. I’d be happy to take measurements of my model if that’s of any use. It does come with European style pilot/draftgear. I modified mine to North American practice.

Hello mlehman! I don´t know how upload some pics from my PC… but I have two blogs with some handmade models on H0 and S scale.

How to post photos on the forum.

Leo,

No problem, I made them clickable:

Jeff has pic posting covered. The links are easy. Highlight the link, then click the small “chain” symbol in the toolbar of the message composition window. That will bring up a dialog box where you can adjust a few things, but I just click to Update, then it’s done. You can do the same thing with an image elsewhere by grabbing the “Forum Code” on your pic hosting location or just use the URL like I did here below by cliking the “frame” symbol to the left of the “chain” symbol. Here is your beautiful Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton, which most of us North Americans have never seen, let alone imagined![:D]

Folks,

It’s well worth checking Leo’s work out at these links. Not exactly something you see everyday, but it shows how what seem like exotic prototypes to many here can be effectively and wonderfully modeled.

Thank you mlehman, I built some models from Argentina and Uruguay, but my personal colection are North American Railroads. I´m fan of SP and ATSF. In Argentina we had some USA locomotives, ALCo RSD16 derived from the RS11. And this Baldwin Lima Hamilton is a Pennsylvania Shark Nose family!
