I’ve been shopping around for prices on geared locos. I like the 2 and 3 truck shays, Climaxes, heislers. But I haven’t found much on them. I know of the obvious, Bachman shays… They’re anywhere from around $140-$250. Do you guys know where I can find some of the other geared engines? And who makes them. That would be great… Thanks

Check out Train world’s mail order ads, the Bachmann 3 truck Shay has been under $100.00 at times. Bachmann also has a two truck Climax, that Train World has had really good prices on in the past. They have also carried Rivarossi’s three truck Heisler, and their ad in the July MR shows the Rivarossi two truck Heisler for $79.99, you would have to ask about the their current prices on the others.

Micro-Mark has the Bachmann 3-truck Shay with DCC and sound for $208.50, or DCC ready and no sound for $94.95.

I PERSONALY own a bachmann 80 ton three truck shay. (try saying that three times fast ) I personally think that I made the right investment. It is a beauty, the detaling is increadable. You made the right dicision. I would personally go with Bachmann. I don’t have a rivercrossi but the look well made. Long story short, follow your gut.
