My family and I will be traveling through Georgia on Monday and I’m looking for any nice hobby shops you can recommend for us to stop at, particularly those with displays setup, however, large shops would be nice as well.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me directly at airkevan@hotmail.com or just post on here.
I don’t think there are any good model railroad hobby stores in the downtown area but there is Trainmaster Models in Buford, a ‘suburb’ of Atlanta and off to the east north east a bit, and there’s Riverdale Station (Riverdale is another one of those little towns swallowed by the ever growing Atlanta) just south of Atlanta near the airport. Do a google search for directions to them. Trainmaster is by far the largest and has the most inventory while Riverdale carries much more of the items related to southern railroads, for instance you’d find 40 foot Atlanta and West Point RR boxcars there but not at Trainmaster, as a general rule.
Trainmaster is apparently closed on Monday’s, as they don’t have any hours listed on their website for Monday’s…I couldn’t find a website for Riverdale but found the location. Looks like that will be our stop.
Yes, I’ve been to the Kennesaw store, it’s just across the street from the Kennesaw museum (war between the states) The trainstore is ok, not as big as Trainmaster but it’ll do. I forgot Trainmaster isn’t open on Mondays.
I think the museum is call the Southern Museum of the Civil War and Locomotive History… home of The General.
