GLRR - Memorial Day Weekened (10 IMG)

Hey Gang,

Sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve been in here. My Renaissance Soul has had me pursuing other passions apart from Railroad Photography of late. I still did manage to get up to the Georgetown Loop over Memorial Day Weekend to see #12 running. It was really nice to have steam up there again after such a long hiatus.

The day started in Silver Plume. The Porter diesel has been having some issues with it’s C-B prime mover. It was sitting in the Silver Plume yard waiting for some parts to come in:

I got a little artsy-fartsy with the row of filters on it (while the photo is too busy to be really successful, I still kinda like it):

#12 was sitting in the Engine House when I arrived:

Operationally, it’s easier to shoot in the afternoon on the Loop, so I spent the morning doing some Geocaching and Benchmark hunting. As the day rolled along, though, I found my way back to the Loop. Here’s a shot of #12 crossing Clear Creek on her way to the High Bridge as seen from the I-70 overlook:

Speaking of the High Bridge, here’s a shot that I’m pretty sure I haven’t done since 1991. I love the sense of scale this one gives:

After that, I headed down to Georgetown to grab a few shots down there. Here’s #12 running around her train in preparations for the climb back up to Silver Plume:

Chris,

What a spledid collection of photographs! You have a wonderful knack of capturing scenes that many photographers would probably miss. The technical aspects (proportions, focus, clarity, and perspective) set a standard for the rest of us to aspire to. Additionally, the emotional content of your images is for me a constant source of inspiration; indeed, I have altered how I photograph certain things due to the examples you have provided us. Well done!

Ditto what Z said…

Thank you both for the very, very kind words!

Why say more? Good stuff!

I’m with Larry–you always post amazing pictures, and these didn’t disappoint.

The only deficiency I can find (and some may not agree with me) is that they weren’t taken somewhere in the Midwest, within, say, hailing distance.

Hard to add to what Zardoz, Brian, and Larry said! [tup][tup][tup][yeah]

{Chris, The only criticism I would have: you need to get you some really good

camera equipment and quit using those WalMart one use cameras!}

Larry, Carl and Sam - Thank you very much for the kind words!
