Has anyone tried glueing the fake fur furry side down and then cutting the backing off with a sharp knife? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Worked very well for a friend of mine. He “planted” weeds between his rails on a branch. We had a few operating sessions during which the Kadee uncoupling pins caught on little loops of fiber that had been formed accidentally. Once these loops had all been found & cut, the layout operated beautifully.

There was an article in MR a number of years ago where the guy described doing exactly that. The article was a few months long based on his prize winning article “Eureka, A Town Is Born”.
Should be in one of the first three or four months of 2009.

Yes it is in January 2009 Model Railroader page 71, a sidebar to Gerry Leone’s article. The sidebar is titled “Tall grass from face-down fake fur.”
