My scenery requires a dense cover of WS clump foliage, but I am notr sure how to glue this to the scenery base. Should I cover the area with white glue and “sprinkle” it with the foliage, or should first put the foliage down and then apply the (diluted) white glue with a pipette?
For the clump I use this clear tacky glue you can get at any craft store. http://www.amazon.com/Aleenes-Clear-Gel-Tacky-Glue/dp/B000BY6THS It dries clear and I find it holds better on the slopes than white glue. If you are on flat land then white glue should work fine.
I fined I that I have to do both. I Brush or spray diluted glue on first, then put on the foliage. There are always loose bits so I go over it again. I have very small spray bottles that use to hold lens cleaner that is perfect for the after application.
I used to use diluted white glue on the clumps, but it seemed to take a lot to soak them. I now dab the spot on the layout with Aileen’s and put the clump on it, flat surface or inclined. Using the white glue also seemed to harden the clumps. For ground foam turf/grass, I spread diluted white glue on the surface and then sprinkle/shake the ground foam on the wet glue.
I agree with Emman. I use Tacky Glue to glue the clumps down. To cover a large area, I paint white glue on full strength, then stick the clumps into it.
Make that three of us who do it this way. Sometimes, I follow up with a mix of matte medium/water in a 1:4 ratio that I spray over the glued down clump foliage.
Large items, hot glue [a small dab], add foliage around it with process below.
Ground cover, paint it with cheap undercoat color similar to the ground cover, sprinkle on ground cover, let dry, light spray with rubbing alcohol, spray [gently] with matte medium from scenic express to set, or use Woodland Scenics diluted scenic cement. I like the 16oz bottled of matte medium from SE as I can dilute it 4:1 in a gal. milk bottle, and re-use and add as needed.
