Can I use regular contact cement to fasten rail to CVT ties? It is much easier to get than Barge cement. Thinner for it is also hard to get.
Yes any contact cement that bonds metal to anything will work. Walthers GOO can be had from your LHS. Pliobond works good also. I did some experimentation before I started laying rail. ACC and rubber cement did not hold very well. GOO and Caterpillar cement that I get from work held the best. The Cat cement actually pulled some of the plastic off the tie and bent the rail. I find that thinning is not necessary. If you get the goo also get some plastic tips for the tube.
