Gluing styrofoam

What kind of glue should I use to stick two layers of styrofoam together? Later on I am going to shape the ‘plank’ and I do not want anything to ooze out on me.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve always used Liquid Nails “for Projects”. It works very well, just make sure you get the “for Projects” kind. A lot of the others will melt holes through the foam. Or you can use the DAP equivalent, “All Purpose Construction Adhesive”

I hope this helps!

I used yellow carpenters glue when gluing my foam layers together. Do a layer at a time and add some books or other weights to hold it in place while drying. When you trim the layers, the glue cuts fairly easily. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the tips. Tomorrow (if the stores are open) I’ll get started on my scenery.

any water-based adhesive; like white glue (Elmers or Aileens Tacky glue are 2 that are easy to find) or yellow carpenters glue will work fine. Just be sure that whatever you use is WATER-BASED as solvent will eat through the foam. (that also goes for paint)

If you use white glue though; it will take a week or two to dry completely. These glues need air to dry; and styrofoam and the pink insulastion board is made to resist air. It WILL dry though; just give it time.

I use a low temp hot glue gun. It sets up much faster so I don’t have to wait a couple of days to proceed. With stacks of 10 to 20 pieces high, it works much faster. I can glue and carve a mountain setcion in an hour, not a week.
