Interesting article…
That car would mate well with my nephew’s 6-5-2, Louis and Clark Pass, also lettered Empire Builder:

GN took two intrinsically ugly colors and made a fabulous paint scheme for the Empire Builder and the after War passenger service in general - Pullman Green and Omaha Orange.
The switch to Big Sky Blue was a mistake, from my vantage point.
Wish I had known about the train bar car. The level of service sounds magical.
I knew about it but never went there. It was not as great as they described and I believe they had a full train on a track on Jones Island in Milwaukee but not sure exactly where it was located. The Milwaukee Pullman 8-6-4 sleeper Jefferson River (dupe of Minnesota River which is part of Friends of 261) which was in near original condition was part of that train as well. So KC Union Station bought several cars of that train and shipped to KC and the Jefferson River just sat outside on a siding somewhere and of course vandals got to it but they did not do too much damage. Jefferson River car is in Mason City, IA now undergoing some kind of basic restoration. I think it is still in UP yellow and gray.
I don’t know why KC US spent the money to ship the cars there for a future exhibit, then did nothing and parceled them off to various groups. Made no sense to me but I guess…plans change.
I don’t know! However, many development projects are started only to falter for a wide variety of reasons before being completed. Death of the spearhead is the most frequent cause, as the individual that is moving the project forward is most times the only one that can ‘see’ what the finished project will be.
