…No, can’t handle Mexican fare but I know just where it would be there on Andy Devine. The La Posada I speak of is {was…?}, as you come west towards downtown Kingman…the complex of the restaurant and motel would be just before you start down grade a bit into Kingman proper, and on the left.
I’ve pulled up the {now Best Western}, Add on the internet and could see the La Posado building off to the side in a pic. Boy, time flies…That La Posada building was brand new in 1970 era that I spent quite a bit of time in that area. Saw David Eisonhower and Julie Nixon{wife}, and some other celibs stop there over time. Even Wayne Newton and his large horse trailer pulled in one day for a bite to eat.
There is a pizza place in Huntington, IN that is in the former Wabash Freight House. Track speed is 60mph on the NS automotive artery and they didn’t move the building away from the track. 20-40 trains a day virtually guantees a train or two between slices.
Up in Butler, IN there is a pancake house that sits next to the NS Huntington District (ex Wabash [same track as above]) with a view of the ex Waterlevel Route (also NS). On a good day 100 trains will pass within view.
Nakashima’s Steak House - Appleton, WI, about 1/2 mile west of the former Soo/WC now CN main. Nakashima’s used to be called Seigo’s. I’ve told my friends I want my funeral held at that place - go right there from the cemetary. Hell, bring me along and prop me up at the hibachi - I’d probably still eat hearty. [dinner]
There’s also a pretty good rib joint in the former MILW depot in Lacrosse, WI. Good food and you can sit out on the platform and watch the action on the CP main. Just don’t do what I did and think it’s an easy walk from there to the UW-Lacrosse campus (boy I’ll never do that again).
It’s been mentioned before on the forums but the Titletown brewery restaurant in Green Bay, WI, has a good combination of food & price and is located in the old C&NW depot downtown. Also, in DePere (a few miles south) has the Sports Corner restaurant is also next to the tracks for watching trains moving at track speed.
Graffiti’s in Terre Haute IN, located just off 8’Th ave on 13’th [close to Haley Tower]. You can watch CSX Indy to St Louis tracks; foods good and the prices weren’t bad the last time we were there.
Sneaky Pete’s bar n grill [kids welcome] in Effingham IL [by the mall on 45] all you can see of the train are glimpses of the top half’s when their switching in the CN/IC yard about a block away, but they have a great lunch anyway.
I have to recommend Mickey’s Hot Dogs in Bellwood IL. It’s on Mannheim just south of Washington, best hot dogs ever. It’s a short drive from there to LaGrange for the IHB (Hanesworth Park is a great place to watch IHB action) or a few minutes farther south is downtown LaGrange. It’s a great place to stop and pick up lunch, because there is no seating in the building. It’s been there almost 40 years I think. Just south of 47th St on LaGrange Rd is a place called Dino’s Fast Food, good food at reasonable prices.
PZ…I’ll agree with you on Fontano’s subs… excellent place to eat. They are the best, right along with Jimmy John’s.
