Some of the good spots in New Jersey is…Ridgefield Park where you can see the CSX River Line and the NYSW Line[:D] another spot is Bound Brook NJ where you can see the CSX/NS Lehigh Line and the NJT Raritan Valley Line (lots of F40PH-2CAT’s)[:)]
Are you talking about Ridgefield Park that is acoss the river to Little Ferry?
One good spot is also one of the most dangerous spots to railfan in New Jersey, the cities in Hudson County. The rail lines run through cities like Jersey City, Bayonne, Hoboken, etc. These cities are not safe at all, especially after the schools get out. But if you are willing to take the risk of getting beat up or shot at, then you can see some good train action. I have often had to turn down a good photo op because I felt threatened. For some reason I havent got my Trains Magazine this month, but I am really interested to see where this guy took his pictures of CSX trains. Oh, by the way, Im also a Jersey City Cop and Im still afraid to go to some trackside locations in the city.
This is Norfolk Southern, yes I mean Ridgefield Park across the River from Little Ferry.
As a former NJ res, I’d have to say Princeton Juction was always a favorite, but that was back when it had low-level platforms and freight trains… still a beautiful place to watch trains though. Harrison NJ, also on the corridor, has lots and lots of passenger action, and the neighborhood is better than it looks, but it’s still a rusty industrial area, so be careful. Bound Brook and Ridgefield Park are both great, as mentioned before. Ridgewood NJ was always a personal favorite, but it’s not perfect for photography, as the platforms have fences between them. Hohokus is better.
