Goodbye

To many nit pickers and no freindly help great pics though

Au contraire!

I have found a lot of new friends here in the forum, and I have received a lot of good advice and friendly help. Could it be, that you are expecting too much and are prepared to give only little? Only 26 posts in 3 years?

It is your choice!

Those that ask, receive. Those who don’t ask, or who ask the impossible…

Goodbye and good luck.

Chuck (Modeling Central Japan in September, 1964 - with ideas first found on these forums)

mmmmm—must be because you didn’t see the good threads–oh well

Good luck with future endeavours----[:-^]

Wow…I just looked at all his posts and this is the first time he ever started a thread (save a ‘test’ post in the test forum).

My question is this, why bother posting a “good bye” thread? Why are you looking for attention in your departure? Why not just leave without the fanfare?

Every thread he has posted in has been a good, positive thread. I dont get it.

With an attitude like that, good riddance.

I got into this hobby 7 years ago after a casual visit to my LHS. When the shop closed a few years ago, I turned to this forum for help and advice. I could not have survived and prospered in the hobby without the help and advice of the many, many fine people who make up this forum.

If you want to nitpick, you spelled friendly incorrectly, left out an “o” on the word too, incorrectly put a space between nit and pickers, omitted the period at the end of the sentence, and neglected to put any punctuation between the words help and great.

G’bye. It was nice having you visit. Next time you are coming to this side of the river feel free to drop in.

I disagree my friend. I do not post much but i find that the people of this site are friendly and helpful when i do. Some of the nit pickers you talk about says stuff that has bothered me in the past so i like to here their take on some subjects. Over all i consider this form one of the best out there, this is one of two train forms i reguraly look at.

I am sorry to learn of your experience here. I have also seen some nit-picking, but I felt that it had its uses. It is often an indication of a defect, and if pointed out it can serve as a source of improvement. It can also be rejected, declined, or contended if the receiver has something better or merely different but of the same value. It is a forum…give and take. Or, just leave what you can’t or won’t use.

Good luck wherever you end up.

It’s been my experience that people who do this, don’t really leave. They eventually re-surface without fanfare.

Those who actually leave, just disappear.

These kinds of posts are generally a bid for attention.

Hi!

I’ll try real hard here not to be sarcastic or put down the OP. Gee, that’s really hard to do - my exwife would be amazed…

You all said it pretty good, and may I reinforce a bit…

This Forum has been my inspiration and sounding board for years. I seriously doubt I would have migrated to DCC, or even bother to rebuild my old layout (1993-2008) without the advice, good words, and encouragement of the folks on this Forum.

Yes, I’ve encountered a couple of negative postings over the years, but that is to be expected - considering the amount of folks involved here. And “nit-picking”, well sometimes you can learn from that, sometimes not. But the beauty of a Forum is that you can pick the postings you want to read or get involved with. If they aren’t for you, don’t read them.

So to the OP I say, its your loss…

If the truth be known, he has had such poor modeling results that he is frustrated and is giving up on model railroading period.

Even the best couldn’t help him.

While I have to agree that there are quite a few nit-pickers, I know I can be one of them at times, this forum has been nothing but helpful. Most of it freindly.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. Yes, there are some folks that don’t come across very well. Some may have an attitude, others may have difficulty expressing themselves in words on a screen, would be wonderful friends in person and able to “show” a lot. However there are too many good people (whether they can express themselves well or have difficulty spelling “i” that are willing to share their knowledge, be it a beginners experience or well advanced. I try to listen to all and see what I think will work best for me. Sometimes I guess right others, well, go back and try another road.

Whether you have many posts or not is not important, if you have used the forums and learned from them, that is what they are for. I will say that since every situation has its unique points, some questions sound alike, but they have little differences. For YOUR best answer, you have to ask your question.

Hope you will reconcider. Learn to laugh off the complainers and those who feel we should all be perfect. My friend has gotten his layout running. On the way to a show last weekend he said, “I have my farm scene finished, it’s not great, but I like it.” That’s the nice thing about this hobby, you are the only one you really need to satisfy. In my own work, I look for improvement, I may never compete with the nice layouts we see in MR, but I will have fun (and a few frustrations).

Good luck.

Many years ago I was playing ball with my grandson. I would toss the ball and he would try to hit it with his bat. Finally he threw down the bat and yelled. “Grandpa, you are not hitting my bat”. 'Nuff said.

Nit picker Schnit pickers! (had to be real careful with the spelling here) Hey as with any public forum there are always naysayers and negative comments. I’ve been privy to more then one negative comment myself but you know what even those who nit pick and make negative comments have something positive to offer.Even the guy with the circle of track on his living room floor can have something to contribute. When you think you know it all or can not learn from even the ones among us with the least amount of experience then your the one who needs the most help.

If you want to find the good in life sometimes you just have to look for it and it’s usually right in front of your nose your just to blind to see it.

The “nit picking” is often called constructive criticism. It’s also the reason why people post, so they can get feedback to further their knowledge and skills.

If he’s in the hobby, I’m sure he’ll be back. [:)]

[:(] Sorry it didn’t work out for you. Better luck in the future.

On the bright side. More Beer for the rest of us.[yeah]

If everyone agreed on everything, and everyone knew everything, there would be nothing to talk about.

Disagreeing is part of learning. And if no one ever spoke up when they disagreed, the world would be a very sad and bad place.

In my opinion, it is truely sad that even the most minor differences of opinion are seen as such a negative thing in our society today.

I come here to learn and to teach, to challenge and to be challenged, to be a better modeler and and a better person.

Exchanging ideas is the basis for all new thought and knowledge, if we limit the expression of ideas based on abitrary prejudging of what is “acceptable” or “PC”, then we limit new thought and new knowledge.

Some people on this forum, like myself, have been at this a long time and have clear strong opinions and many years of experiances to back up those opinions.

Being firm in your convictions and confident in your experiances is not a negative thing in my view.

But because of various trends in out culture today, it is often taken in a negative way by those not as self confident. No offense is intended, and none is taken when you disagree.

This, being a hobby, is also subject to personal taste, interest, style, etc. This will lead many to disagree on a number of aspects.

The hobby press, and even this forum to some degree, push the “agenda” of the majority, or maybe just the vocal. Speaking up in disagreement to the “mainstream” (or loudest stream) is a good thing, not a bad one.

As for the OP, I too question his motives, but I don’t know him. In any case I hope he finds what he wants.

Sorry,I just don’t see that…

In some of my replies I like to tell the other side of the story as food for thought.

I like to say its cool if you run Bachmann locomotives.

I disagree on some subjects because it may not be necessary or it may be complicating the simplier way.

Ever think how boring and worthless a forum would be if everybody agreed on everything?

Being a moderator on 3 forums I’ll tell you up front you won’t find that many forums that is utopia unless its heavily moderated.
