Looking good! It came with a plow pilot (since installed) and two tool boxes, yet to be installed.

Bob,
Isn’t that nice! I bet you can’t wait to pull a string of log cars out of the woods. I hope it runs as nice as it looks.

Bob, I was just wondering and asked here, if you had gotten your Climax! I would be real interested in your impressions. Please email me directly, if you don’t want to post on the forum. How does it run, details and quality? Thanks, Mark
Im not much of a steam or logging guy, but that is a NICE engine. Bachman has really outdone themselves
It is well detailed, with all of the pipine self standing, not molded on. All details seem to be pretty nicely done. It came with a metal coal load that covers the electronics in the tender area. There is a dummy DCC plug inserted in the circuit, just remove it and replace it with a proper decoder (I’m not into DCC myself). It’s a small engine -from coupler face to coupler face it’s just about 6 inches long. The windows in the cab slide back and forth.
It seems especially teeny to me, as I also have Bachmann On30 Climax, which of course is way bigger! As to running, well all I have set up now is my test track and it seems to run back and forth OK. The lights reverse when direction is changed. Neat to see the little pistons and the gearing turning around as it runs.
I just recently discovered that if you click on a photo in a post, it is resized larger - great for a quick look!
Wonder what Bachmann has up their sleeves next? A new Heisler? [:D]

That’s a SWEEEEET looking little steamer! Good thing my hobby budget is in suspended animation right now, or I might just find one of those little buggers on my layout!
I have a riverossi Heisler that is just flawless. That one stays in the box until I can find something to run it on.
That Climax is a good engine. 6 inches you say? If you haul cars with it, count em and let me know how many you came up with.
Bob,
Very nice.
I’m a huge fan of logging loco’s and the Climax is one of my favorites. Below are some prototype
photo’s that I took back in May. Enjoy. Dave
What a sweet little engine!
One Question on it. Did you add any extra details to it like the rope to the Bell or is that part of the Bachman Model itself?
Chris
very nice! looks like a painted unlettered.
Great Bob! Now where did you get it?

I didn’t add a thing - it was out of the box for about 5 minutes when I took the photo. The rope to the bell is a little bit heavy, I may look into replacing it when I do some other things to it like adding the tool boxes and some other logging parts and supplies.

I got my HO Climax a few weeks back and I love it! It runs perfect! and is silent!

I actually got it from a dealer in Canada - North Shore Model Supplies from Blind River, Ontario. I posed a question on this forum and also on the newsgroup rec.models.railroad (RMR) inquiring where the best price was for a new Climax. Caboose Hobbies in Denver wanted $199.95, Trainworld’s price was $159.95 but they didn’t have any in stock.
Wholesale Trains in NY had the best price - $139.95, but I had just recently received a Bachmann On30 Climax from them and they shipped it to me via FedEx Ground. They collected the 15% tax coming across the border, and charged me $35.00 to collect it for me. I phoned and asked if they would send the HO model by US mail, as the fees coming this way are only $5.00. They said they cannot send by Parcel Post, so I forgot about them.
My post on RMR resulted in an offer from the Canadian shop that was too good to refuse, and I ordered it from them. They mailed it last Thursday and I got it today. A good deal and a great model!

Love my Shay too! Check out this photo - shows how small the Climax is! The Climax is a bit shorter than the main body of the Shay:

I used a Train Control Systems M2-PV decoder in my Climax. A minor problem - I ordered it from
Loys’ Toys with a short “OS” harness (orange wire to the left) and it turned out I should have gotten the “GS” harness
(grey side to the left). Still worked OK, but had to sort of fold the wires back so the decoder sits in the bunker upside down.
Otherwise, it works great !! Is pretty small, was able to get it to pull 6 cars w/caboose on level track, but did detect some slight wheel slip. Four cars worked a lot better. Max speed was only 16 MPH, cruised easily at 8-9 MPH.
Last week’s Great American Train Show had a dealer selling them for $139, still in the shrinkwrap. He seemed to have them in quantity, both Spectrums in general and the Climax in particular.
