This morning I was driving to work and right there beside me on the local shortline of Montreal Maine and Atlantic RW, I see this:
I read that it is a GP20-D, manufactured by EMD in 2000 and 2001. Only 40 units. It has a sister, the GP15D. Used as switcher with only 2000hp.
Any of you have one of those on a layout? Do you know any manufacturer (Athearn, Bachmann, P2K, Kato, Atlas) who made some for our hobby?
I do not think it’s a nice loco specimen, but its rarity makes it kind of interesting.

The GP20D and the earlier MPI MP2000D were early attempts at very fuel efficient units for yard/light switching duty. These were built around 2000, and sort of got lost as the builders went to the ‘Genset’ concept of multiple small power plants under the same hood.
I am unaware of any of the above model companies making a model of this locomotive. Maybe there has been a brass import. However, Atlas has done two versions of the NRE Genset 2100 hp locomovive which is similar in profile.

Yes I know the NRE genset, but even if a bit similar in profile they are different in looks in my humble opinion.
The NRE genset looks more like a Gp-38 with a low back. GP20-D has bigs windows and a bizarre nose.
Anyone tried to custom make one to scale?
