GP60 Southern Pacific horn?

Hi guys,

What horn setting would a GP60 in Southern Pacific livery have, I’ve got a P2K model with a DSD Soundtrax decoder in it and would like the correct horn for it. The choices I have are single, three and five chime. But which is right?

Looks like a 3-chime, Nathan P-series, I believe.

It is a Nathan P-Series Horn (P14R2, to be exact). The From 9600 to 9769 (including the SP-Based D&RGW GP60’s) the horn was placed on top of the cab and ahead of the air-conditioner. From 9770 to 9794, the airhorn was relocated behind the dynamic-brake section.

Ditch lights also first arrived on SP 9715-Just a side note.

Thanks, the above is really useful information. Not sure where Ditch lights would go on my model (SP 9735) as the manufacturer didn’t drill holes for them.

Hi Ian,

For your SP 9735, the location of the ditchlights were placed above the anti-climber. It was optional to have them in their silver casings or painted. When it came to the SP, the ditchlights were painted red, while the the headlight casings in the front and rear were silver.

This photo should help you, the 9735 was the same asthe 9721.
