Just read Bob’s review of the Lionel GP7. If this GP7 just average, I don’t know what excellent would be. Even though I personally don’t care for Geeps without the D/B blister and with that ugly cover over the fan, just judging from the picture, this GP7 is much more than merely average. No mention was made of the side windows or truck detail or handrail stantions. I’m sure you GN fans would love to see a full consist of these babies!
In my opinion this is a very nice looking model, despite what Bob has to say.
You want “excellent?”
Wait till the review of the SD70ACe.
I’m in love.
I thought you stopped reading my reviews years ago, anyway, BigJim.
Watch Dr. Bob’s video and he explains the ‘eh’ feeling a bit more. I loved the comparison with the earlier model - wish we could do that more. He’s right the sounds are pretty nifty.
Hey Bob Did you see that NYC GP I posted in SPF I waiting to see if you saw it as you like NYC so much Its from 1996 thou but it is TMCC [:)] I know its not legacey lol
Yes I did!
Anything in NYC, regardless of the bells and whistles, is better than anything NOT in NYC, regardless of bells and whistles. In fact, I brought a little K-Line S-2 in from home for a photo shoot and have been admiring the paint job!
Wouldn’t have an owners manual on that era TMCC GP would you that you could get me a copy made from do you as lionel don’t list on there web site that far back.
Hey Bob, a K-Line S-2… now that’s one great engine!!
Now I hope I don’t hurt your feelings for the second time in a week, but that K-Line NYC S-2 also looks pretty darn good when you strip the paint off it and re-do it CONRAIL. Kinda nice to see the photo though, so I can remember what mine once looked like.
The bad thing about the K-Line S-2 is that they run so good and always work, that I never have any time to write any threads about how I have to send them off for repairs. Ah, the old adage “less is more!”
Now in all seriousness, I’ll be awaiting a review of the new Lionel steam starter engine that you showed off in the last issue of CTT.
I may still have the Geep manual somewhere in the basement (I never seem to keep them with the box). If I can find it, I’ll let you know.
I think the K-L S2s are great - and I love the Proctor & Gamble grocery chain series locos.
The 0-8-0 is a bit of a light puller, but it is a lot of fun (and no, I won’t repaint till the review is run …).
BOB Doug not a grump got it for me he had it on his putor and sent it to me thru the coffee shop I know have it on my putor gotta love this networking we all do here[:)] Thanks anyway I think its the one I want seems to have what I really want ( what each button does in command mode.
Naw, just quit buying. But now that Neil is gone things seem to be getting better by the issue.
But you shouldn’t let your dislike for Geeps interfere with your review of a very nice looking model.
Now if Lionel could put little guys in each engine that he could “talk to”, then I think the review could be a bit more interesting.
Actually, I wrote it was “Nice, but not a model that was going to set the world on fire.” I tried to convey the disappointment was with my expectations of what the model should have been, not a fault of the model I was testing, because while it was okay in looks, it performed well, and had knock-your socks-off sounds.
The SD70ACe, however, wildly exceeded my expectations for that product.
Well said Bob!!! [:D][tup]
Here’s a pic of the last NYC loco I couldn’t resist. Make by K-Line in 2007. Now if I can just figure out how to cram Protosounds 2 into it [(-D]:
NYC Die Cast Plymouth Switcher
Hey Bob…any chance of us getting a condensed version of your review? Some of us dummies let our CTT subscription expire [:(]
I haven’t written it yet - I don’t put it into electrons it till it is ready to go into print.
Okay…look forward to it. You sure saved me from wasting some cash with the review of the NASCAR train set. I appreciate that. [;)]
"Wait till the review of the SD70ACe.
I’m in love."
are you “in love” with the over-the-switch bump caused by the oversized flange on the dummy wheel?
i hope you cover this in your review.
if you don’t know what i am talking about…and you should…check with your boy, norm c. he has video.
Kent ran it all weekend and he reported it, but added "It isn’t any worse than the SD40."He was using Ross straight and curved switches. What brand switches are you using?
atlas, the same thing norm was using. problem has been reported with all kinds of switches though.
here is his video that shows it. watch the trailing truck near the end of the video. for an operator like me, cosmetic inaccuracies will blow right past, but this is pretty ugly.

did kent run it up any grades? some are saying there are traction issues.
In Rock Island and NYC paint, it is a very nice model, and with the exception of the control system, equivalent to the Atlas GP9. The Legacy control system works well with this loco.
In Great Northern EB paint, they couldn’t have done a worse job if they tried. The orange is way to orange, and the striping between the orange and green is incorrect on the roof. The stripes should have curved to a point on both ends in the center of the roof, on the Lionel, they go straight across the roof.
I would have loved to have purchased a two unit consist, but I was so dismayed at the paint job that I cancelled my pre-order. Bought the Atlas Northern Pacific GP9s instead.
One other missing detail is the MU receptacles, which are also missing from the Atlas GP9. Precision Scale makes the correct MU receptacles if one can find them.
