Apparently there was some sort of grade crossing accident on the BNSF at or near Harlem Ave, in Berwyn this morning.
I figured something was wrong, when 4 Metra trains, all moving at somewhere around 10 miles an hour followed one another at about 2 minute intervals on tracks 2 and 3. This was at about 8:45 while I was walking the kids to school. About 9:15 or so, I was in our downtown at the bakery, and I heard an announcement from the METRA station loudspeakers that all trains were delayed 30-60 minutes due an earlier grade crossing accident “in the vicinity of Harlem Ave.” .
According the Chicago Tribune website an empty westbound Metra BNSF commuter train hit a trailer pulled by a pickup truck this morning in Berwyn. The Metra train ‘“clipped the trailer at Harlem and Stanley Avenues around 8 a.m.”, said Berwyn Police Chief William Kushner.’ According to the Tribune report all trains were stopped for about a half-hour and there were no injuries.
