Grandt line boxcab

I was wondering if anyone knows the smallest radius a Grandt line box cab will negotiate. I’m asking about an HOn3, but the standard HO would probably be about the same. Thanks

Jerry,

I don’t know for certain, but my guess would be something under 10" radius for either HO or HOn3. But that may not be the relevant issue here.

Your limiting issue at radii that small will be coupler swing in connection with whatever rolling stock you intend to move with the boxcab.

The little 25-ton ones? They’ll probably take a 6" or smaller radius - certainly a smaller radius than they could haul a car around, that’s for sure. They have a shorter wheelbase than many Birney cars, and those will go around some insanely small radius curves. I tried this once with a trolley line through the center of my town. I bend a piece of flex track as far as it would go without kinking the rail, and the old Mantua trolley I had took it in stride. I’d say maybe a 12" radius is the tightest you could get it to pull or push a 40 foot car around, maybe a bit tighter if it has truck-mounted couplers
