Great Model Railroads 2012 online extras
These are some nice layouts. Too bad MR doesn’t have an online PDF version of gmr 2012.
While I generally enjoy receiving GMR editions as well as all the publications from Model Railroader, I often experience a fair amount of disappointment in not seeing passenger service facilities and equipment being highlighed. When I came across Rocky Mountain Lines RR in GMR 2012 and saw the elaborate trackplan of Centennial City’s station complex, I was excited to hopefully see photos featuring this unique and rare feature on a railroad capable of handling major passenger detailing. Alas, nada… save for some model details of the station’s arched windows. After searching elsewhere online, I could only find one platform height shot of the California Zephyr in that station. While I respect coaling and intermodal endeavors, it would be nice to see passenger service getting a little more love by MR. For most of us, large scale passenger modeling is a dream, and when the all too few layouts have this feature accomplished so well, but is then overlooked, it’s an opportunity missed for a segment of your readers. Oh well, maybe next time.
I am lookig for modeling electrified railroads , can’t find it . Can you help ? e-mail JIngham1@hotmail .com Thanks
Too bad so much of GMR is dedicated to the past and so little to today.I won’t be buying this one.
thanks for the video on some the great layout in the GMR2012 and the down loads of the photos as waiting for my to come in the mail so that start reading this GMR 2012.
I have been a little dissapointed in the annual great!!! model railroads the last couple of years. Some of the model railroads featured have been good, but it seems like some are just page fillers the last couple of years ( nothing special just another how to article). This will be my last year buying the special edition magazine without looking inside first.
I have to agree with many of the comments that this issue did not live up to expectations. The comment regarding lack of good passenger service railroads is echoed here too, which is of my deep interest in model railroads.

I like the fact that model railroaders are going back to railroads of the past. I know it is not the opinion of everyone , but i think the past was when the real railroading was done. Some of the layouts I have seen in GMR remind me of when I was a kid watching the trains go by my house. Keep up the good work!
With the variety of interests model railroaders possess this type of issue must be difficult to prepare. Even though I am sometimes disappointed with the issue, after closer examination I usually find something useful. Keep up the good work; you must know by now it is impossible to satisfy every model railroader.
I always enjoy the layouts that are in the issue even if not actually covering the time, scale or area that I am most interested in. There is always something of interest once you look.
I thought GMR2012 was great. Of course you can’t please everyone all the time but one can look at each layout to try and get something out of them for their own layout. You never know where an exciting new idea or inspiration will come from. Keep up the great work. MR Planning coming up.
