H0 BUDD RDC-4

I would like to build a RDC-4.

Did someone do that and scratch build/kit bash one from a Proto 1000 H0 RDC-1,2,3? I would be happy to participate from previous experiance.

I’ve got one about three quarters done, but set it aside a while ago and haven’t had the interest to finish, keep getting sidetracked!

A fair amount of work, starting with an RDC-1. Had to cut apart the chassis to shorten, and do the same with the body.

Might get back to it someday!

I did the same with an old Athearn model many years ago, but it was already the proper short length to start with.

believe it or nuts, Lionel in O-27 did the 1,3, and 4. I’ve never seen a 4 in HO.

Mike at IHP is doing RDC4’s and RDC9’s(B&M only, lacked controls, middle units)

I am not sure when they will be available because he has a large list, but you may want to wait for his model.

Athearn did a 4 and others in their original line of metal RDCs in the early 50’s. I picked one up through an ad in a magazine many years ago, along with a -1 and a -2. Kinda coarse by today’s standards, stamped metal sides with cast white metal ends and “hump”, power truck was 1950’s of course too.

My plastic Athearn RDC-4 won the RMC “Kitbashing Award” in their August 1987 issue - so you can see I’ve been interested in them for a while!
