Hammant & Morgan

I have in my possession 5 Hammant & Morgan multipack selector switch units.
Each one has 6 single pole double throw switches on it.
Does anyone know of an electrical diagram I can see online so that I can wire these up?
They were given to me by my dad & didn’t come with an electrical diagram.

Any help would be appreciated

I’m not familiar with that brand of switch, but does it have 18 terminals on it? Perhaps in a 3X6 pattern? Do you have a multi-meter? If you want to email me a photo or a sketch, I’ll help you figure it out.

Hammant & Morgan is a name remembered affectionately by many UK model railroaders - they were known for making the best controllers years ago - I’ve still got an old H & M Duette unit that my Dad bought over 21 years ago - it runs Athearn locos very nicely! The H & M name is now owned by Hornby, who are using it on their “premium” transformer/controller units (HM2000/4000). Unfortunately I can’t help with a wiring diagram, but I thought a bit of background might be appreciated!

Hey Railroading_Brit, thanks for the insight. He’s going to send me a photo, and we’ll put our heads together and figure it out, but the fact that it was designed for model railroading tells me a lot.

It may be a fancy variation of one of the electrical components that Atlas makes for the North American market. It sounds like it is a two cab block selector, that has A and B common inputs, and 6 track block outputs.

Hey Bigboy4005

Could you reply to my email I sent you. I don’t have your direct email address & would be easier to send the photo to you if I had it.
If you don’t mind of course.

Thanks

Gordon

Depending on the Version you have you should be able to unscrew the box, and it will be apparent from the innards as to how it works. I have a H&M switchbox from the early 1960s which uses three screw terminals on the rear of the box per switch with the centre terminal being the common.

These days with miniature switches these H&M boxes are a huge space user but they are very reliable and waste not want not.

Best wishes, sunstream2

Don’t know if this will help, but from the title it appears it might::

Do you own an an old H&M controller? This manual covers several of the controllers plus wiring diagrams, ballasting and scenery.

Very large file. 50mb from memory.

LION had some mystery switches. Him just used a test lamp to probe the terminals and switch positions. Him used that to test relays as well. An ohm meter would read across the coil, but a lamp will not light or will light dimly. Eventually you will get it figured out.
