HARRY POTTER HOGWART'S EXPRESS ?

I just laid eyes on a hogwart express and it’s a darn cool looking engine . The fellow owning it said it is a variation of an actual european engine . Now the question … is it and does anyone have any info to links of actual pics of the real engine ? I’d love to add it … but put it back to original configuration and scheme . Lionel has no info whatsoever … come on guys … I need ya again !

send John Bakker a email hes lives in England hes spoke of the actual one befor

CTT had a pic of the real one when they did a review of the toy. It looked the same it just had different name boards. I see if I can find the issue.

Well, yes, the engine in the Harry Potter movies is Olton Hall, a GWR 4900 class - Take a peek at Lionel’s Shakespeare set, featuring this engine (repainted gloriously) as Kinlet Hall. If I didn’t have 027 curves…

After I bought the set I reliezed it won’t run on 0-31. Lucky I have some O-42 track on my layout.

Y’know I don’t see it listed anywhere that its 036 like Hogwarts - and it doesn’t really like 036. Our LHS owner was speculating about carving out the cylinder heads with a dremel to let the pilot swing but I can’t see that working.

When I run it on the fast track that came with the set the pilot wheels rub a little. I was wondering what the scraching sound was. Maybe if you try putting smaller wheels on the pilot, they look awful big. If it don’t work you can change them back without doing perminet damage to the train.

It’s in the Feb. 08 issue on CTT

Olton Hall

I picked up one of the Shakespeare sets. Very nice all in all. The uniquely Brittish whistle is definately different. Im quite impressed with the quality running of this set. I run it on 0-54 tubular.

From Chuck’s (Wikipedia) photo, those pilot wheels sure look appropriately large. I bet it loves 054…

On mine it looks like it rubs the inside of the cylinders. Maybe if you put smaller diamiter it will be able to make the tighter radius.

Lo and behold … the info was emailed to me from here ! It’s the Jacobite Steam Train . http://www.lochsandglens.com/jacobitesteam.asp . Plus now I’ve found alot of links and pics to redo the wild rascal . Thanks millions everyone ! Luckily I am running almost all 072 track because of a huge steamer I bought first in O scale . Thanks again guys … your help is priceless and super fast !
