Harry Potter?!?!

Ok stop laughing long enough to answer my questions, lol. My First question is What type of loco is the hogwarts express? I would like to make a verssion in N-scale. Also what type of passenger cars are the cars of the express?

Harry potter got me more intrested in trains then ever and I am planing to get the bachmann or the marklin set in the future (read when I have more room). But even if I have to custom paint an N scale loco to match with custom decals I am game. I just need to know what to buy. Thanks,

Curt

The locomotive was a 4-6-0 Hall Class from the Great Western Railway.

There was an HO set available shortly after the first movie was released, but I don’t know if it is still available, or if it ever was in N scale.

The loco is a Hall class (as stated). The coaches a British Railways Mark 1. I think these are available in N scale, but not painted for Hogwarts. Due to liscensing, they have only been made by Bachman, Hornby (both OO/HO) and Lego (large). Not sure if anyone did anything in O; suspect not.

(The Hornby loco is not a Hall.)

The guys are correct the one used in the film is a Hall class and was correctly modelled in OO/HO by Bachmann. The one modelled by Hornby again in OO was a Castle class which looks very similar but is slightly bigger and more powerful, (plus they had an existing Castle model in their range, and figured that as the Loco was called Hogwarts Castle it would be more appropriate!)
The Great Western Railway had a standardisation policy similar to the Pennsy so they are hard to tell apart unless you know exactly what to look for.
For N gauge no-one produces a rtr Hall but Graham Farish ( part of Bachmann UK ) produce a Castle class you could repaint, stock code 372-025 http://www.grahamfarish.co.uk/prod.php4?prod_selected=farish&prod_area=2
here’s a useful shop in the UK with pics on it’s site http://www.hattons.co.uk/
Post some pics if you do a repaint.

This is the second time you’ve asked this question and the second time I’m replying. As someone else said, the coaches appear to be BR Mk 1 coaches, which are available in N scale.

Graham Farish (now owned by Bachmann) makes both a Hall and Castle 4-6-0 in N scale, although the Hall doesn’t appear in the current online catalog.

Here’s a link to a UK hobby shop directory: http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/

You might want to check Hattons: ( http://www.hattons.co.uk/productlist/ReleasesByMonthAndYear.asp?s=2&y=2003&m=8#372-000 )as they may have a Farish Hall from the 2003 run. This page may be of more help: http://www.hattons.co.uk/productList/list_stock_linkpage.asp. Scroll down to the Graham Farish link.

Note: You’ll save the British VAT being from overseas and outside the EU. That’ll almost cover the price of air shipment.

Thanks for the links Andre. This was acctually the first question I had asked looking for the type and class of loco that the hogwarts was. The other question I had posted was looking for the specific model in N Scale. I appericate the info you provided and will be looking into it when I have an extra $200 bucks. I will post pics up of a repaint when the time comes when I can get my hands on a loco. I am going to ask if anyone in town can get me 1 from Bachmann UK then go from there. Thanks again,

Curt

Why don’t you just order one from Hatton’s when you have the money?

There was (or maybe still is) a shop specializing in UK items here in the States. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of it.

Maybe it was this one: http://www.britanniamodels.com/trains.php

However, I don’t see a listing for a Graham Farish “Hall” in their online catalog. Maybe they could get one for you.
