Have you ever looked upon a structure or scenery you’ve created / built as if you were looking at it for the first time? This happened to me last night while entertaining a visitor. As he asked me those typical questions of " what did you use to create this, and that…" I had a hard time remembering how I did it!
I Know I’m getting older, but i don’t think I’m lossing my memory just yet. I quess what I’m trying to say is that sometimes when i’m creating a structure or scenery, I kinda space-out on what i’m doing and allow my instincts to take over.
So my question to you guys is:
Has this ever happened to you?
luckily no!, i only have 3 buildings, and am only 16 [:D]
Well since I don’t ever have any visitors, I don’t have that problem, plus i’m only 16.
Yes. There are times when I’ll get involved in a project and need to
‘invent’ a way to get a certain detail just so. I tend to just do such
things automatically. On some, I’ve been asked how to accomplish
the same thing by others and be at a loss. I just did it–but didn’t
really keep track of the method. Can be slightly embarrassing.
Done what? Layout? Do I have one? Oh that is what is under the pile of foam scraps. Creativity does not always take notes.
Yes.
The worst is when it’s something electrical.
And if you’re not fifty yet, be prepared – it gets worse!

Yep, then I ask the better half and she says “ya know I don’t remember either”
YES!
I am now spending too much time trying to get back below 60 let alone 50. But, I do have fun with my railway. I am a member of the Australian Model Railway associaton and lots of kkits (or rather concepts ) are done at the same time. A lot of us are building freight sheds at the moment and there is a lot of sharing of ideas. If I forget surely one of the cerew will rember the technique.
I still want to work out how to get below 60! Any ideas?
Chris
My father used to always say; There are three things that happen as you get older. The first is you loose your memory,…and I forget the other two!
Hi Bob
I can’t remember[swg]
Sorry could not resist temptation.
I think this stems from the fact we build railways our own way for our own pleasure.
We don’t bother too much about how we get the result we want as long as we get the desired effect then we move on to the next bit and it needs something different so we do something different.
About the only thing we all have in common is a love of railways and we all have one and a desire to do the best with what we have.
The rest is all different.
So when a few years down the line we get asked how did you do that??
we would be more concerend with the project in hand, and have to think to remember how we actualy did do that.
regards John
Yes , it has happened to me! [V]
And I’m only 45!!![:0]
…you mean like the other day when a 1 mile round trip to the grocery store turned into a 6 mile run because I accidentaly turned onto the Interstate, instead of the frontage road and had to drive to the next exit to turn around.
All of my weathering jobs… which is a swine because cuts of cars have to be done in one hit if they are supposed to end up looking like they’ve been in the same environment.
I like the idea that I can blame it on “creativity”. I thought that I just didn’t know what I was doing…
That can be embarrasking!
Has this ever happened to me? Constantly. I think of something that has to be done and by the time I get up, I’ve forgotten it. BTW, what was the question?
im only 14 and i dotn zoone out that much so luckly no then again i havent made alot of stuctures in the past, or maybe i zoned out so much i dont remember zoning out, i better stop im confusing myself
good evening
i forgot that i forget,or is it i forget that i forgot? oh well what was your message?
I thought memory was the second thing to go?! I can’t remember the first and I’m only 36!!!
Yes the mind is the second “thing” to go, but they have all kinds of pills to take care of the “first”. Guess we now know that the mind doesn’t make the world go round!

Has WHAT ever happened to WHO??
At 50, I could care less how much I forget, as long as I remember where I put the beer!
