Several weeks ago, I was having electrical problems with the new Walthers 130’ turntable I had purchased. The control unit kept shutting off during index programming and finally quit working altogether. I called their hot line for support and left a voice mail. It was a couple days longer than advertised before I got a response but when I did, the people I talked to were very helpful. They explained that they were swamped with calls which is why they didn’t get back right away. After describing my problem, they suspected my power source might have excess voltage and it could have burned out the main board. I had been using a very old MRC power pack as a dedicated power source. I used the 16 volt outlet which is within the range specified for the unit. The technician told me it was their experience that some powerpacks give off more voltage than stated, in some cases in the low 20s, beyond the limits for their TT. They decided to replace the control unit and suggested I get a Miniatronics 12v regulated power unit which I did. I received a new control box in the mail a couple days ago and wired it up to the Miniatronics PP and everthing is working beautifully now.
Anyone who is getting one of the Walthers powered TTs should be aware of this potential problem. Make sure you know the true voltage of your power source before you hook it up to the Walthers TT. You might save yourself some headaches.
I also want to commend Walthers for their customer service. Most of us don’t hesitate to complain when we get bad service so I want to commend a company when it does it the right way.
