Hi I’m looking for Heavyweight ACF 70’ Baggage-Express, but they are out at walthers. Do anyone know how long it usually takes before they get them again? It’s irritating to read a review in MRR and they are already gone. This makes me think about the other thread about the internet taking out magazines.
But as I said do anyone know where I can get some or when I can expect to find some again?
I can’t say they have any, Magnus, but you can try internet hobbies, trainworld, discounttrainsonline, cherry creek hobbies, modeltrainstuff…one of those places may have what you are looking for. I agree that when you do look, even the retailers show that they are taking advanced orders/reservations since there are none available, but the supplier is taking numbers to decide when to have another batch made up. This seems to be the way BLI is going, too. Try blueridgehobbies, too.
You go to walthers website and look at the list of dealers who recieved that product in the past. Each one can be contacted by email or phone and within a few days you will have generated a short list of who has this item, what thier pricing is and shipping cost if you ask nicely.
There might be one at the LHS here in Arkansas but dont remember.
Those cars were tough to get, waited a year past due date for them and waited some more. I got two of them (Undec green) and that will be it for the Heavyweights for me.
The situation will only worsen as more and more items are limited run only.
Mine was also ordered but never came in- back ordered. I had the same trouble with the B&O heavytweight obs. Has been about 6weeks now, waiting for the baggage.
I now of walthers find list. I have tried and the results are hardly great. I have also e-mailed som other stores and have found nothing. The problem of calling around is that I liven in Sweden and it gets expensive to call around and then ship individual cars. I’m looking for three or four of them and so that shiping and customs won’t kill me I need them sent together or atleast two and two.
I was in “One Track Mind” down in Mabelvale Arkansas a few days ago and saw a ACF Heavyweight B&O 70’ Baggage car RTR with Modern Doors already installed on his shelf.
Give him a call and ask if he will be willing to consider selling the item to you. I dont know about the shipping because he is a retail hobby shop.
I will try to find his phone number and put it on here along with the store address for you.
If He is not willing to ship because of international or other issues I can volunteer to assist with that provided you cover the charges of the actual shipping.
I didn’t look for a delivery date, but the latest issue of MR has a Walther’s full page ad, or nearly so, of the Baggage Car, so they must be in production.
Thanks for looking for it. The problem is that if I order one it gets very expensive on a per unit basis. It will probably run me close to 100$. But please do check it up if your in the neighborhood but PLEASE do not go out of your way to help me. I’m most grateful.
On the MR article. Yeah I found that article to and went to Walthers to check if they were back. But no. There was an other B&O ite lately being reviewed that when I was going to get already was sold out. Irritating to say the least. So I e-mailed Walthers and asked if they knew when they would be back but they had no plans laid down as of know so I have to wait.
Walthers has those cars IN STOCK but in a number of different railroads other than B&O. If you can imagine your passenger train connecting with another railroad, you might consider buying a baggage/express car lettered for a non-B&O railroad. It was not unusual for “foreign” baggage/express cars to be a part of a train. Besides, it adds a bit of variety to your passenger train. That’s why I like express/mail trains, which beside the express cars (box, reefer, baggage/express, mail) can have a rider coach or even coaches, diners, and sleepers.
I found it quite easy to search Walther’s data base to find the models. I entered “HO” for the scale, “Walthers” for the manufacturer, “passenger cars” for category, and “acf” for description. That resulted in about one page listing models.
I like walthers webpage. Once you get the hang of it it’s better then most I think. I was mostly thinking about bogp40 when I resurected this thread.
For all those who came in on it now, when I originally posted this they were not available and that is why I asked back then. Now they got a date and I’m a happy camper.
I wan’t 5-10 of those now so tracking them down individually is not an option now that I can make a large order in August. I do not want other railroad names except perhaps some Pullman Green ones. But they to come in August.
I’m looking for some in the pullman green and some in the B&O. Haven’t quite decided on how many of each yet. Fortunaly I have some time now to decide. [:D]
I have 11 other Heavyweights in the pullman green colour scheme and soon I will have roughly 16 B&O heavyweights. I want to make some express heavy trains for both, but primarily it will be B&O. I’m thinking of running a train of perhaps 5 baggage, 2 coaches and dining car for example. I’ve also conidered an all express train consisting of just baggage cars.
I can’t help myself, I just love the B&O colour scheme on their heavyweights and the Walther cars are so nice just to look at. The Pullman geen ones I will wait with untill walthers have a sale on them or I can get a good price somewhere else. They are not a priority.
I believe that there are 5 sleepers in the B&O paint to date. Sounds like you have them all.
The latest release is the Solarium-Obs plan#3975C, Walthers #932-10460. These were available at the same time that the Baggage was supposed to be done. If you have any trouble finding the Solarium-Obs let me know, I believe it is still a stock item.
Hi again, yes I have all the sleeper variants. Two of them I had to get from Cabbose since Walthers didn’t have them when I ordered. I pre-ordered the solaraium to make sure that I got it but it like most of the stuff have not arrived yet. I’ve noticed that walthers never have a sale on any B&O heavyweights other then the diner car. I’m about to order three more of those since they are on sale and I’m going to buy some stuff anyways. I think that the only cars I don’t have are the baggage cars wich is frustrating since it’s fitting to have quite a few of them. I mean all these cars looks so good I’m enjoying them in my displaycabinets without even running them on the layout(wich right now is being dismantled so that I can ad on it when the Atlas track arrives)
You fellas know how to make me feel guilty. I done went and bought the B&O Baggage and went back for the B&O Diner (Someone else got to it already) and it is a good fit with the Rapido B&O Cars I already have.
It took me and One Track Mind a year and some months to put together my Pullman Passenger Set, most of that time was waiting on Walthers to get the durn things OUT of the factory and into the store. Now it’s like wherever I turn around there are batches of these cars spilling all over the place.
Well if you find that baggage spilling out all over grab a couple, and I’m sure that Magnus and I will take them off your hands with no problem at all.
It did take me about the same time to put together the heavyweight set in the B&O. Been a long time since the first sleeper in blue/ gray and black paint.
