Hi, I started building a layout two years ago based on Gordon Odegard’s “Bedford Valley”, which I found in a MRR track layout book. Went to pick it up again this year, and I’ve lost the book. Does anyone know where I can figure out which book this layout plan is in? I tried searching in the track plans database but didn’t find it.
A good quick way to search for information like this is the Train Magazine Index on this site.
The layout was published in the Kalmbach book 48 Top Notch Track Plans from Model Railroader, and originally in Model Railroader November 1986.
This was a good plan in that it encouraged the builder to cut up the plywood sheets to yield something different from the tired old monolithic HO 4X8. Unfortunately, Mr. Odegard didn’t take full advantage of the opportunity it could have allowed for a larger minimum radius, which would be more useful with a wider range of equipment.
Excellent - thanks for the advice and the help - I appreciate it! I’m using this as my first attempt at L-girder benchwork, and I’m hoping to start trying to actually “operate” the railroad. Also teaching my young son a bit of carpentry (not that I really know anything). Thanks very much! Scott
