HELP. How do I post pix?

I need some help please. Benny shows that it obviously is possible to post pix in a thread. Please, how do I do it and create URL links. Was real easy on the old forums. They show just fine in the preview and then come up as gobbledygook text in the post.

Tony,

I assume that you have your pictures stored on the internet somewhere.

If you do, you need to enter some img “tags” around your picture location. Tags are keywords surrounded by brackets. There’s a start tag and an end tag. The end tag begins with a slash inside the brackets. Something like the following, except delete where I have the *.

[img*]http://www.jbrr.com/assets/images/IMG_2060.jpg[/img*]

Should get you something like this:

Oh yes. URL links are just another tag. In this case the tag name is url.

So…the following (if you delete the asterisks) will give you a link to my web page:

[url*]http://www.jbrr.com[/url*]

Deleting the asterisks gives you this:

http://www.jbrr.com

Or, you can use the CREATE LINK button above - just saw that! They need to implement something similar for graphics!

“Or, you can use the CREATE LINK button above - just saw that! They need to implement something similar for graphics!” Where do you see that. No such thing in the fields I see. No buttons for anything. I have tried using the correct bracketed stuff at each end of my URL’s. The pics and links show up just fine on the preview but come up as a string of gobbledygook in the actual post. I correctly typed the brackets above and you can see what shows up. eg. [img*]http://www.rcs-rc.com/pics/Baguley-Drewry/18-loco-TX-24.jpg[/img*] When I take the asterisks out I get this:

TONY

I have been posting pictures just like i did on the old forum it has been working for me . I am at MLS with my down loads and bring them from their, to other forums.

TONY take the star out behind img at each end see if that helps. BEN

Hi Benny. I took the asterisks out and got the gobbledygook. Maybe I haven’t turned something on somewhere but I see no reference in the FAQ thing about posting pics. Also I do not see any button marked “create a link” that Bruce refers to. The only buttons I have are REPLY, QUOTE, DELETE & EDIT. Should I have more?

TONY

Where you login and out at top of right side OF PAGE their should be FAQ also update profile. On the left side of page it has welcome back, and your name behind it, also go to research links by Rene at top of page. their is an artical on posting pictures, This is in general discussion , I hope this helps. Ben

Tony,

AFTER I hit one of those reply buttons, I get a box where I can type my reply.

Immediately above the box are some formatting buttons (Bold, Italics…). Almost to the end is this button:

, which is used to create a link for a URL.

I’m not sure why you’re getting translations from [ to < in your message. I know I was having some initial problems when I had some extra spaces on the line that I put the tags on.

It’s kind of amazing that the NEW forum software doesn’t make it EASIER to post pictures!

Of course, I’m still amazed that it cannot list active topics by forum…

It seems to get confused if you put the url, then edit in the img tags. Put the first tag {img} then the url, then the end tag {/img} (but use instead of {}).

Benny, I will go look at what you say. Tom, That is exactly what I did. I did use the correct [&] around img & /img with the url inbetween and the preview shows it correctly. Then gobbledygook appears in the post. Bruce. There are no symbols at all anywhere near the field I am typing this in. Weird. I don’t have any buttons or symbols near the reply field. I guess that may be because I have something in my profile not set right. Either that or it could be this IE 7.0.5346.5 browser. Can someone please advise me about that. It works at every other website where I have no difficulty posting pix the normal way. I can assure you I am typing what I should correctly.

I for one haven’t at all noticed any change from the old format to the new; and I post photos both from my PC and from my MAC.

Here’s how I’ve always done it.

  1. Go to your photo hosting site.

  2. Right click on the image and click on “properties”

  3. Copy the URL

  4. Paste that URL into your posting window and put [img.] before it with no spaces and [/img.] after that URL, with no spaces.

Simple as that! (don’t put the periods there inside the brackets like I did; I just did that so they’d show up as text and not boxes

OK.
It is the IE browser causing the problem. I see all the buttons and symbols now I am using Mozilla.

I will go and put that pic in now.
Thanks for the help guys.

Hmmm…

I just addressed this in another thread. I think I have it figured out. Read on…

Hi Guys,

I think I just figured it out. Take a look at the two tests below. It’s the exact same image link. The second one works, while the first one doesn’t.

The difference? When I pasted in the first link, it was already anchor text; that is, hyper-linked blue text. That’s what our forum software is having a problem with. So, in the second text, I took the hypertext, pasted it into Notepad to make the link plain text. Viola, it worked!

So, if you’re having a problem with posting photos, convert your text to plain text.

Test 1:

Test 2:

Here’s a copy of those links (with an intentional * behind the img so the system won’t actually display the image) so you can see what I’m talking about:

Test 1:

[img*]http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/BillC/fr37cp.jpg[/img*]

Test 2:

[img*]http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/BillC/fr37cp.jpg[/img*]

Notice how the URL in Test 1 is hyperlinked and the URL in Test 2 isn’t. That’s where the problem is happening.

Please try this out and let me know if this solves the problem. (My fingers are crossed! [:D]
