Dear Norris, Thank you for contacting us. We have seen a few issues come in from forum users who are unable to post in IE9. This seems to be an IE9 issue. It appears the only options that seem to be available at this point are to. A) Use an alternate browser (Firefox 4 and Chrome function correctly) B) Change your profile setting to Plain Text C) Use IE9 in compatibility mode. To change your content editor to plain text, click the (Edit) button next to the Public Profile button. This option is within the Site Options section.
Above is a reply I got from customer service at Kalmbach. I had been unable to post on anything except the testing forum. So, my son changed the browser to Firefox 4. That didn’t seem to do anything. I then changed the “default content editor to plain text”. I can post now, but…and this here’s your big but- I can’t quote, I have absolutely no options, and my posts have no paragraphs.
Anybody have ideas on what I can do now to get out of this pickle? << Pretend there’s an icon of a guy beating his head against a keyboard here>>
For what it’s worth, any whiney, sarcastic remarks I put between these marks doesn’t post – << >>
I take it that “Compatibility Mode” in IE9 didn’t fix your problem???
IE9 has been problematic for a number of sites I deal with. Especially complex sites in particular ones that don’t do a good job with standards compliance.
I don’t have a useful suggestion beyond trying every option they suggested.
Internet explore is totally useless and very slow. I use Opera as a browser and never have any problems.
Semper Vaporo- Sorry- I have no way to quote your post. Can you explain what IE Compatibility Mode means? Is it still relevant, if I changed to Firefox? Please talk real small, I’m darn near computer illiterate. . -Thanks
Thanks to a couple of PM’s from helpful folks, I think I got this whipped. The compatability view option is under the tools bar.
[swg] Yip Yip skipppy I still can’t see where the option is to change colors on the type. Maybe I’ll just have to be happy with black and white.[banghead]
Yes- I am that dumb when it comes to computers.[D)]
Nah - it seems like every time I have to deal with some sort of software upgrade, I end up losing a feature that I used a lot. Either that, or a new feature is introduced which runs counter to how I’m used to using that particular program.
At work, I managed to duck the transition to Windows NT until they’d moved on to whatever came next by just keeping my mouth shut. NT was renowned for being a tad “difficult.” Now they can “push” updates to individual computers.
You’d think they’d write these programs so they didn’t have to have a “compatability mode…”
Then, again, I do tend to be a “command line commando.” Give me a command prompt and a list of commands and I’ll be a happy camper. When I was trying to set up my new wireless router, I made a mental note that I didn’t have that much trouble configuring an industrial grade Cisco router (7513, for those who know) to serve hundreds of users.
Norris, on my board (just above the top of where I’m writing this), you have selectors for font family, font size (I use both of these) and paragraph (I’m scared of that one). Next to those three is an underscored capital “A”…that’s what you click on to make your text more colorful.
I use Firefox for this Forum. But, being a Mac user, I have Safari for everything else. I have an occasional problem with slowness or hesitation in some places, which I can usually solve by rebooting. And now you know everything I know about these gol-durned gadgets.
Does that make me defective, if I don’t have the capital A? When the computor decided to put a hex on me, it took away the color option and the font size option. It’s a conspiracy, I tell ya.[sigh]
from left to right, the options I have above where I’m writing this are:
Bold / Italics / Underline / Srike through / Indent / Outdent / Unordered list / Ordered list / Insert / Unlink / Insert media / Edit image / Smilies / Cut / Copy / Paste / Paste from Word / Edit HTML / Spell check / Paragraph options.
Beyond the fact that I don’t even know what a couple of those options even mean, is it possible that the color and font options are…hiding(?) somewhere, and I’m just to dense to get it?
Did you undo that “plain text” change you made initially?
My having been a programmer for (plus) 40 years I have an adage that you might find of value:
“Computers are neither smart nor dumb; they are just plain MEAN!”
Ding ding !! I had undone “plain text” and set it to standard. When I read your comment, I went back and changed it to" enhanced". I figured it was just one little detail I had overlooked. Thank You !
