Help! Need a truck

Does anyone out there know where I can find a truck for an older Atlas FP7? I cant seem to find one anywhere.

Train show or swap meet would be the best bet. Can you substitute some Athearn trucks in it? Is this a Kato made chassis?

Pete

Did you try Atlas ? They have a phone number, and show an FP-7 Truck Assembly exploded diagram.

I think this might be the way for you to go. The truck assembly is shown here: http://www.atlasrr.com/pdf/HO%20FP-7%20TRUCK%20ASS.%20AUSTRIA.pdf

The on-line part catalog is here: https://secure.atlasrr.com/mod1/index.asp?CartId={8C6D47D5-FB9F-42B8-AAA8-C76DEVERESTE8F0343F}

Put a 9 in front of the part number when you put the number in the search box. I did that for the sideframe assembly and it appears to be in stock.

There are also gear parts shown here: https://secure.atlasrr.com/mod1/items.asp?CartId={8C6D47D5-FB9F-42B8-AAA8-C76DEVERESTE8F0343F}&Cc=PH79&iTpStatus=0&Tp=&Bc=

You might be able to come up with enough stuff to assemble what you need.

I think it’s a Roco drive. I phoned Atlas this morning, they don’t make them anymore so they couldnt help me.

I thought that Roco was in Austria. If that engine was made around 1975, does it look like: http://hoseeker.org/assemblyexplosionAtlas/atlasemdfp7diagram1975.jpg ?

The other FP7 diagram I can find looks like: http://hoseeker.org/assemblyexplosionAtlas/Assembly%20Explosion%20Atlas%20FP7.jpg . The truck asemblies look very similar.

The hoseeker site shows the FP7 truck assembly http://hoseeker.org/assemblyexplosionAtlas/Assembly%20Explosions%20Atlas%20EMD%20FP-7%20Truck.jpg and this drawing suggests that the truck was made in Austria. The Atlas website has this same diagram and I think most of the parts are available (if the website is to be believed).

Obviously you have the engine in front of you so maybe you have something different from the diagrams. However, if the engine does look like the diagrams I’d go back to Atlas and re-ask the question. If you asked them the first time if they had parts for an old Roco-made engine, you might have got an inexperienced individual who might not have been familiar with what they have. If you can tell from the engine that you have what is shown on the diagrams, then you can ask Atlas if they have the parts by the proper part number.

On the other hand, if you don’t have what the diagram shows, then “never mind”!

Just trying to help.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thats the truck I need all right. I did call Atlas but they

Looks like Atlas almost has enough individual parts to build the thing, except for the worm assembly, the bearing, and the wheelsets. Too bad that close enough is only good with hand grenades and atom bombs.

Looks like you’ll have to be searching the boxes under the tables at your next local train show.

Good luck.

I agree with pete, a train show would be best, but you could check some of the many discount model railroading sites around the web.

As you hunt check and see if the old GP-40 (also by Roco, look for the yellow box) truck might be the same configuration.

That might help expand the search a little.

I agree with Lee on this one. The older Atlas/ Rocco drives with that blomburg sideframe were used on the FP7, GP40/ high hood 38s.

These are commonly found at train shows, white elephant table etc. I’m sorry that I can’t help with the part needed now. I had numerous chassis on hand but passed them off some years ago.

I have one of those Roco FP7 trucks left over from a FL9 project. PM me if you still need it.
