Help - Stupid question to you but Im new

Hi. My son just recieved a 1993 limited edition k-line train set from his grandfather. Never out of the box so Im sure it is all in perfect condition. I am having a problem connecting the power to the tracks, it just doesnt seem to fit…Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Please hurry my son is most upset.

Basically how do you attach the wire assembly to the tracks… I’ll get spirts of power but then it stops

What doesn’t fit–the track railpower lock-on or what–lock-ons are clips that fit onto the rail flanges and receive the wires from the transformer??

The Hot wire from the transformer,typically from an “A” post connects to the center rail and the Common wire, typically from a “U” post ,connects to either outside rail.
Need more information to understand your problem.

If you don’t have a lock-on do you have a soldering iron and some rosin core solder so your can solder the wires to the rail fllanges.

The K-Line set should have a special track or lock-on device that lets you connect wires from the transformer to the track. The wires from the transformer should plug into or be tightened into the red and black connectors. Do you have the instructions that came with the set?

I believe the lock ons dont fit they aren’t tight at all…unless Im doing it wrong.

doug, no, that is the one thing that wasn’t in the box. It will work if I hold it in a certian position but I am not sure how to keep it in place.

any other thoughts???

If you are using a lock on connector for the wires, it should snap in place from underneath a section of track. The two wires from the transformer should fit into the two spring loaded terminals on the lock on. Make sure that bare wire only is attached. You may have to strip back the insulation on the wires. Check the terminals on the transformer too to make sure that insulation on the wires is not interfering.

it seems that the problem is the actual lock on. when I try to lock it onto the bottom of the tracks nothing happens but when I slide it down a bit and hold it there it works…Do they ever need to be adjusted?

If worse comes to worse and the lockon doesn’t work, pu***he wires into the underside of the track (one under the middle rail and one under an outer rail) with a flat-headed screwdriver. That’s not an ideal permanent solution but it’s better than a balky lockon and should get you out of the crisis.

If you simply cannot get your lock-on to connect to the rails, turn a single straight track section over,wedge the split rail flanges open slightly with a screwdriver and insert a stripped wire end into the space for a temporary “friction” fit. Be sure the Hot wire is inserted in the center rail and the Common wire into an outside rail[see my first post}.

Linel made several types of lock-ons, is it the clip in place or the turn and fit from the the pre-war era?
